Ten years after the first edition, Jungle Fight crowned its first female champion on Saturday night in Belem, Brazil.
Larissa Pacheco and Irene Aldana, both undefeated in MMA with stoppage wins only, met in a bantamweight bout at Jungle Fight 63’s co-main event, and the Brazilian was crowned the champion in an exciting three-round war.
Mexico’s Aldana, who won her previous three fights via first-round knockout, was stopped by Pacheco in the third. “Larissao” moved to 9-0 in MMA with the win, with nine stoppages.
In the main event, Rodrigo de Lima became Jungle Fight’s new welterweight champion with a quick finish over Gabriel Toussaint. The 170-pound title, vacant since UFC signed Elias Silverio, stays in Belem as “Monstro” needed less than three minutes to take “Gorilla’s” back and get the tap with a rear-naked choke.
In the quickest fight of the night, Douglas Silva showed that weight advantage sometimes is not an advantage at all. Thiago Passos missed weight, so he was deducted a point even before he stepped inside the cage. However, Silva didn’t need that extra point, as he beat Passos in 25 seconds.
After the bout, Jungle Fight president Wallid Ismail announced that Silva will challenge Alexandre Campos next for the featherweight championship.
