Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos is back home in Brazil.
The Salvador native was discharged Sunday from the emergency room at Houston’s Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center after being admitted for treatment following his fifth-round TKO loss to current titleholder Cain Velasquez in the main event of UFC 166 at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.
According to Ariel Helwani on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight, dos Santos received 11 stitches after his fifth-round TKO loss: seven above his eye, three in his ear and one under his lip.
Beyond that, dos Santos’ management team at the Guedes Group says dos Santos is in good spirits and denied reports which surfaced in the wake of the fight claiming dos Santos could not remember the fight. They said dos Santos has memory lapses regarding the bout after the third round. But the group said they don’t expect long-term effects from the fight and termed his injuries “cosmetic.”
No timetable has been set for dos Santos’ return to the Octagon.
