Brandon Thatch, a heralded welterweight prospect who recently signed with the UFC, will make his organizational debut at the UFC on Fox Sports 1 #2 event in Indianapolis.
Thatch will take on Justin Edwards, the promotion announced on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old Thatch, who is a product of Colorado’s Grudge Training Center, is 9-1 with six knockouts and three submissions. He hasn’t lost since his second pro fight back in 2008. Since that time, he’s reeled off eight straight first-round finishes.
Edwards is 8-2 overall and 2-2 in the UFC. His last fight came in October, when he put Josh Neer out with a guillotine choke for a technical submission victory. He was supposed to fight Gunnar Nelson in February, but withdrew from the bout due to injury. His bout with Thatch will mark his return.
UFC on FOX Sports 1 #2 takes place on Aug. 28 from the Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The show will be headlined by a welterweight main event between contenders Carlos Condit and Martin Kampmann in a rematch of a 2009 bout that saw Kampmann squeak out a split-decision.
