Justin Gaethje believes that a long training camp is the key to his success.
Justin Gaethje made a big splash upon entry into the UFC, beating up Michael Johnson and taking home a victory in a fight of the year candidate back in July. The undefeated former WSOF champion earned a position as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter with the W, and will fight former Bellator and UFC champ Eddie Alvarez. He has a long time to prepare for this bout, and that’s just the way he likes it.
While speaking to the media recently, Gaethje spoke about his approach to the sport and the preparation he likes to have before fights. In typical Gaethje fashion though, he was honest about what he should do versus what he might want to do (via MMA Junkie):
“The effort I put in, I expect myself to have eight to 12 weeks of preparation, and that’s the way I do things. So I hope to never make the mistake – I just want to put it on the record for myself, to look back on – that I hope I never make the mistake of taking a last-second fight. Because inside, I would want to. But it shouldn’t happen.”
Gaethje and Alvarez will meet on the main card of UFC 218 on December 4th in Detroit.
