Rosa’s weight cutting problems led to the fight’s cancellation.
Sijara Eubanks has a new opponent and a new fight date.
Eubanks was supposed to fight Karol Rosa at UFC Vegas 9 on Saturday, but sources have told MMA Fighting that Rosa withdrew after she was hospitalized with weight cutting issues. While Eubanks will not remain on this weekend’s card, she’ll instead face Julia Avila on September 12th at UFC Vegas 10.
News of Rosa’s removal from the event was first reported by Combate.
Eubanks (5-4) ended her two-fight losing streak with a dominant decision over Sarah Moras at UFC Jacksonville in May. She was supposed to challenge for the inaugural UFC women’s flyweight title in 2017, but her weight cutting problems led to her removal from the bout. Eubanks returned to bantamweight in 2019.
Avila (8-1) is on a four-fight winning streak, most recently going full “Raging Panda” on Gina Mazany with a 22-second TKO back in June. She was supposed to fight Nicco Montano in August, then next week, and then October after Montano’s coach and Montano herself both tested positive for COVID. Instead of taking on the former champ next month, Avila gets to fight this weekend.
UFC Vegas 10 is still without a main event following the postponement of Glover Teixeira vs. Thiago Santos.
