Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has added an interesting strawweight showdown to its upcoming UFC 223 pay-per-view (PPV) event, locked and loaded for Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Sat., April 7, 2018.
Felice Herrig vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
“I’m super pumped because I’ve been asking to face a top 10 fighter for a while but keep getting the toughest fighters just out of the top 10,” Herrig wrote in Instagram. “This is the match up I asked for. Ask and you shall receive. I’m excited to show people what I can do against a step up in competition.”
Herrig (14-6) has quietly put together a four-fight win streak dating back to summer 2016. “Lil’ Bulldog” is fresh off her unanimous decision win over Cortney Casey-Sanchez at UFC 218. Kowalkiewicz (11-2), meanwhile, is looking to build on her victory over Jodie Esquibel last fall.
UFC 223 will be headlined by the lightweight title fight pitting Tony Ferguson opposite Khabib Nurmagomedov. Elsewhere on the card, Rose Namajunas defends her 115-pound strap opposite Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
