UFC Fight Island 7 injuries and medical suspensions were submitted to MixedMartialArts.com earlier this week for those athletes competing at the “Holloway vs. Kattar” event last Saturday (Jan. 16, 2021) inside Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.

Not surprisingly, a fair share of combatants were handed mandatory timeouts, including featherweight headliner Calvin Kattar. “The Boston Finisher” absorbed a staggering 445 significant strikes from the “Blessed” ex-champion across five rounds of action.

“Success in life comes when you simply refuse to give up,” Kattar wrote on Instagram. “With goals so strong that obstacles, failure and loss only act as motivation. Props to Max on a hell of a fight, he deserves all the praise. Thankful for my team’s commitment for this fight. On to the next. There is no stopping the man who doesn’t quit.”

Max Holloway: Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to “hard bout”
Calvin Kattar: Suspended 180 days or until nose is cleared by a doctor; also suspended 60 days with no contact for 45 days
Carlos Condit: Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to “hard bout.”
Matt Brown: Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to “hard bout.”
Li Jingliang: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Santiago Ponzinibbio: Suspended 60 days, no contact 45 days due to knockout loss.
Alessio Di Chirico: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Joaquin Buckley: Suspended 60 days, no contact for 45 days due to knockout loss.
Puna Soriano: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Dusko Todorovic: Suspended 45 days with no contact for 30 days due to TKO loss.
Joselyne Edwards: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Wu Yanan: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Carlos Felipe: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Justin Tafa: Suspended 180 days or until left thumb x-ray is cleared by a doctor; also suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days.
Ramazan Emeev: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
David Zawada: Suspended 30 days, no contact for 21 days due to left eyelid laceration.
Vanessa Melo: Suspended seven days (mandatory rest).
Sarah Moras: Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to “hard bout.”
Austin Lingo: Suspended 30 days with no contact for 21 days due to chin laceration.
Jacob Kilburn: Suspended 45 days with no contact for 21 days due to “hard bout.”

Reminder: Fighters often return to action much quicker once doctors give them the green light. The lengthy suspensions are just a precaution in most cases. In addition, not all injuries are recorded during the post-fight examination and often times surface in follow-up tests.
