Kelvin Gastelum suspended 90 days by Brazilian court, win over Vitor Belfort overturned to no contest

What was supposed to be one of the biggest wins of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career, has turned into a ongoing nightmare for Kelvin Gastelum.

Kelvin failed a drug test for having marijuana metabolites in his system through a sample collected on Match 11, 2017, the day of his knockout win over Vitor Belfort in the main event of UFC Fight Night 106 in Fortaleza, Brazil.

As a result of his infraction, his win has been overturned to a no contest (NC), fined 20-percent of his fight purse and has been suspended 90 days by the Brazilian MMA Sports Court (STJDMMA) as part of a plea deal between the two parties, according to MMA Fighting.

Furthermore, due to his failed test, Gastelum was pulled from his scheduled Middleweight showdown against Anderson Silva, which was set to go down at UFC 212 on June 3 in Brazil. That decision lead to “The Spider” blowing a gasket and threatening to retire from the fight game if UFC didn’t give him an interim title fight against Yoel Romero,

As for Kelvin’s recent request to have his fight vs Silva re-booked for an upcoming UFC Fight Night event in New York City, that is unlikely to happen, as he still has to wait and see if United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) levies out some punishment of its own.
