Khabib Nurmagomedov shared an emotional post to commemorate the one year anniversary of his father’s passing.

Yesterday former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov marked the one year anniversary of his father’s passing. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, an iconic figure in Dagestani combat sports, died from complications due to COVID-19 at just 57 years of age.

Nurmagomedov wrote about his father on Instagram.

“Today is already a year since the Father is not with us,” wrote Nurmagomedov. “This event increased my conviction that nothing in this world belongs to us, neither our children, nor our parents, nor our property. All we have is all temporary.”

“Everything belongs to Allah alone and to Him will be our return, tie your hearts to Allah, stay more alone with Him, because the time will come and we will all be put in a grave, where we will be alone, where our friends, relatives, property and our connections will not be, only our deeds and record.”

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov was his son’s first ever coach. Unfortunately, due to VISA travel restrictions, he was unable to corner his son for the bulk of ‘The Eagle’’s MMA career. The first and only time Abdulmanap was able to corner his son in the UFC was at UFC 242 in 2019, which was held in Abu Dhabi.

Abdulmanap was hospitalized due to COVID-19 symptoms in April 2020. When his condition worsened he was transferred from Dagestan to a military hospital in Moscow and placed in a medically induced coma. He passed away on July 3.

His son would go on to compete on October 24, defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. After that victory Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport.
