After extending his win streak to 28-0, Khabib feels he deserves to be at the top of the UFC’s pound-for-pound rankings.
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov kept his undefeated record intact on Saturday night with a third-round submission win over Dustin Poirier. After his second successful title defense, “The Eagle” feels he is deserving of more accolades.
During his post-fight scrum, Khabib demanded for his name to be at the top spot of the UFC’s official pound-for-pound rankings list.
“You know what’s interesting in this sport?” Khabib told reporters. “Even if you’re 28-0, 12-0 in the UFC, you’re one of the biggest stars, you smash everybody, people will talk about ‘You have to fight with him, you have to fight with him.’ Just give me the respect.
“Put me on the number one (spot of the) pound-for-pound fighter (list) next week,” he continued. “Because I think I deserve this. Because I dominated all my opponents. I’m undefeated. And I think I deserve some respect.”
When asked about whom he intends his opponent to be, Khabib had this to say.
“My next opponent is very good steak with double cheese burger,” he said with a straight face. “I want this, man. With some juice with ice. I want to enjoy a little bit. Give me a couple of days.”
UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is currently at the top of the official rankings, while Khabib is at the number two spot.
