Khabib Nurmagomedov is pumping the brakes on his return from knee surgery.

After undergoing surgery in May to repair his injured knee, the undefeated contender for the UFC lightweight title had targeted an October return.

However, after consulting with his doctor last week, it was agreed Nurmagomedov should do another six weeks of rehab, so his target for a return to action is now December.

MMAFighting.com‘s Ariel Helwani reported the news on Wednesday’s edition of UFC Tonight.

The 26-year-old Nurmagomedov, who was involved in a pair of highly publicized altercations with the Diaz brothers last weekend at WSOF 22, has not fought since April 19, 2014, when he defeated current UFC lightweight champ Rafael dos Anjos.

He was scheduled to meet Donald Cerrone at UFC 187, but had to pull out due to the ongoing knee trouble.
