Undefeated welterweight phenom, Ian Garry, has been dreaming about the day he fights unbeaten middleweight terror, Khamzat Chimaev, ever since they nearly came to blows inside a “Sunshine State” elevator back in late 2023.
The path to “Borz” starts with a victory over fellow undefeated contender, Shavkat Rakhmonov, in the UFC 310 pay-per-view (PPV) co-main event this weekend in Las Vegas, which is expect to land the winner the next 170-pound title shot.
Assuming current champion, Belal Muhammad, makes a full recovery.
“I’m a young kid who dreamt of being here, who wanted to see my face on billboards, who wanted to put on shows against the scariest people in the world,” Garry told Ariel Helwani. “I’ve said to you before, how my ideal scenario is I fight, I beat Shavkat and win the title. Then go up to middleweight and then fight Khamzat. I’ll be able to win that belt too. I’m not afraid of any man.”
Nobody else is afraid either, according to this longtime veteran.
Chimaev is currently ranked No. 3 in the middleweight division and could be tapped for the next 185-pound title shot against current division kingpin, Dricus Du Plessis, depending on whether or not UFC wants to capitalize on this championship rematch.
Either way, it doesn’t sound like “Borz” is looking over his shoulder.
“You’re too skinny kid,” Chimaev wrote on Twitter. “Don’t go near the wolf’s teeth, you’ll end up headless.”
