When asked about a potential next opponent, King Mo Lawal asked for one of the hardest hitters the sport has ever seen.
Muhammed Lawal is looking to tangle with big men again. King Mo, who has fought at heavyweight as recently as 2015, had an interesting answer when asked on The MMA Hour about a next prospective opponent. Instead of naming someone currently on the Bellator roster, he said he wants to fight a former UFC interim heavyweight champion that recently came out of retirement (via MMA Fighting):
“I heard Shane Carwin is looking to fight again. I wouldn’t mind fighting Shane Carwin, if he wants to come back. I’ll fight anybody, man. Moneyweight. So anybody that’s available to fight, I’m down to fight.”
Mo doesn’t seem bothered by the huge size difference either – while he’s not a big light heavyweight, Carwin was a guy that had to cut to make 265 when he was competing in the UFC (he is now a free agent). Lawal said doesn’t care:
“Man, look at the old-school MMA fights back in the day,” said Lawal. “I ain’t hear Keith Hackney complaining about size. I don’t care. At the end of the day, if I can make that weight, I’m going to fight you. Shane Carwin is the man. He has heavy hands. I sparred with him before and he touched me a few times, but it’s a fight. I’m about getting paid.”
Lawal, RIZIN’s light heavyweight tournament winner, had a seven-fight win streak stopped in May by Phil Davis. He hasn’t stepped into the cage since then. Carwin, now 41, hasn’t competed since mid-2011.
