Patricio Freire vacated his Lightweight title earlier this year in order to allow his older brother, Patricky, to achieve his championship dreams. And “Pitbull” did just that earlier today (Fri., Nov. 5, 2021) in the main event of Bellator 270 in Dublin, Ireland, knocking out Peter Queally in the second round to win the 155-pound belt.
The action started off pretty slow, with Queally taking a cautious approach in the first round. Freire, meanwhile, was a bit more aggressive, digging to the body with heavy shots. In round two, the action was halted early on after Freire suffered an inadvertent eye poke. After about a five-minute break the action resumed and “Pitbull” wasted no time in attacking.
After landing a few shots to the body, Freire managed to clip Queally with a nasty right hand that dropped the Irishman in front of his hometown crowd. After finding his way back to his feet, he ate several more shots for his efforts. After taking the action to the cage, Freire put his foot on the gas pedal and unloaded shot after shot, forcing the stoppage.

After three previous failed attempts, Freire joins his brother on the wall of Bellator champions, while Queally will have to think about this one for a while after winning their first fight earlier this year.
