Chan Sung Jung released a short statement after his dramatic last-second KO defeat to Yair Rodriguez at UFC Denver.

Chan Sung Jung was ahead 39-37 on two judges’ scorecards heading into the final round of his thrilling UFC Denver main event vs. Yair Rodriguez. With seconds ticking away, only a freak finish would see “The Korean Zombie” exit the Octagon with a loss, and with one absurdly powerful and well-placed upward elbow, that’s exactly what happened.

With one second left, Jung went from a decision victory to a violent and dramatic KO loss in one of the most stunning results in MMA history. As expected, he was hospitalized after receiving immediate medical attention in the cage, and has since released this short statement on his Facebook page. (Translation via MMA Fighting)

“I have no excuse. To everyone who has helped me, I’m truly sorry… thank you… to everyone who hates me, congratulations. I am not in a good enough condition to get on a plane so I will spend a few days in the hospital before going back to Korea. I am embarrassed, but I will see you when I get home.”

Jung (14-5) hadn’t fought since knocking out Dennis Bermudez in February 2017, having been on the shelf for over a year due to injury. Between injuries and his mandatory military service in South Korea, he’s only fought three times in the last five years. This was no doubt a devastating and heartbreaking setback for The Korean Zombie, as Rodriguez snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.
