Add “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung to the list of people who think Max Holloway was robbed by the judges at UFC 251 against featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski.
The split decision in the rematch between the two top 145ers has elicited a lot of negative reaction all the way up to the top of the UFC power structure, with president Dana White criticizing the ‘bad judges’ and ‘bad judging’ that resulted in Volkanovski retaining his belt. I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised that one of the top divisional contenders would throw in his two cents and build some beef with the champion, but I’m still a bit wowed at the strong words being thrown around by Jung.
“I am responding to yesterday’s title match against Volkanovski and Halloway,” he wrote on Instagram. “To be honest, it is shameful that Volkanovski is a champion of my weight class. Give him to me then you don’t need to worry about the judges decision.”
“As you know, I won’t let the judges decide the result of my fight,” Jung concluded, tagging Dana White, the UFC, ESPN MMA, and MMA Mania (holla at ya bois, KZ!). “I will finish him at the title match and that is what UFC fans want to watch.”
Before “The Korean Zombie” can save the honor of the featherweight division, he’ll have to get past Brian Ortega. The two have been involved in some serious back and forth conflict since their originally scheduled fight fell through in December of 2019 due to an ACL injury suffered by Ortega. At UFC 248, Ortega famously confronted Jung’s friend / translator / K-Pop celebrity Jay Park and slapped him, apparently because he figured Park was the one serving up Jung’s new spicy disses in interviews and on social media.
No date has been set for Jung vs. Ortega, but it’s clear “The Korean Zombie” is already banking on taking that win and moving on to face Volkanovski.
