Johnny Walker and Nikita Krylov faced each other in a Light Heavyweight clash tonight (Sat., March 14, 2020) at UFC Fight Night 170, which took place inside Ginasio Nilson Nelson in Brasilia, Brazil. In a takedown-heavy performance, Krylov picked up the victory.
Walker opens the fight with a big kick. Walker jumps into the air with a knee attempt, and Krylov counters with a takedown attempt. Both men land in the clinch immediately after the shot. After taking some hard elbows, Krylov completes a double leg takedown. Krylov traps Walker along the fence in something of a stalemate position. Krylov lands some small punches to the chin and body. Walker regains his footing, and the two trade wildly. Big right hand connects for Krylov. Krylov swarms, lands a few more, eats a backfist, then lands another takedown. This time, Krylov fully grounds his opponent in the full guard, where he lands some good ground strikes. Krylov finishes the round in top position.
Body kick and right hand lands for Krylov, who then ducks down and scores another double leg along the fence. Krylov settles into the half guard and begins to work elbows. Walker throws up a triangle choke, but he’s stuck against the fence. Krylov escapes and passes guard. Walker recovers half guard, but he’s not doing much to get back to his feet. Walker kicks off the fence and sweeps his opponent. Krylov goes after a leg lock. While going for the heel hook, Krylov lands an elbow. Walker escapes the leg lock and gets to the back position, where he drops some heavy shots until the bell.
Krylov lands a big push kick to open the final round before dropping into a takedown attempt. He lands the double leg, but Walker uses an underhook to roll his way into top position. Walker steps into mount! Krylov scrambles though, landing back in top position in the half guard. Walker recovers full guard and lands a couple elbows, but he’s also eating ground strikes himself. The pace slows in the guard as both men tire. Krylov rolls up with an armbar attempt, but it allows Krylov to pass into half guard. Walker is exhausted but attempts a half guard sweep. A couple hard elbows from Krylov convinces Walker to abandon the sweep.
Krylov controls his foe until the end of the fight. It wasn’t a pretty fight, but Krylov’s more consistent wrestling and general toughness allowed him to impose his will and earn the victory,
Result: Nikita Krylov defeats Johnny Walker via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)
