Kyle Kingsbury meets Patrick Cummins at UFC on FOX event in San Jose

If you thought Patrick Cummins was one-and-done after his high-profile loss to Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, you were mistaken.

Cummins, who propelled into notoriety by accepting a pay-per-view co-main event with Cormier on 10 days’ notice with just four career fights, will compete for the third time in five months on July 26 when he meets the returning Kyle Kingsbury in a light heavyweight bout at the UFC on FOX card in San Jose. FOXSports.com initially reported the bout on Tuesday.

Cummins (5-1), who lost to Cormier in under two minutes in February, scored his first Octagon victory Saturday night in Albuquerque, when the Reign MMA competitor scored a second-round TKO against Roger Navarez.

Kingsbury (11-5, 1 NC) meanwhile, last fought in 2012, a TKO loss to Jimi Manuwa. Kingsbury, an American Kickboxing Academy fighter, considered retiring from the sport after suffering a broken orbital bone in the loss, but changed course this spring and became intent on his return to the cage.

Kingsbury first made his mark on The Ultimate Fighter 8 and rolled to a four-fight win streak before dropping three straight, the last of which was the Manuwa loss.
