Ladd lost in 16 seconds in the UFC Sacramento main event.
Three months after suffering the first loss of her MMA career, Aspen Ladd is hoping to get that result overturned.
The UFC women’s bantamweight prospect was quickly stopped by Germaine de Randamie in July’s UFC Sacramento main event, as she was knocked down from the first punch of the fight. After one partially landed follow-up punch, referee Herb Dean called an end to the contest at just 16 seconds, which did raise some question marks over whether or not the stoppage was premature.
According to ESPN’s Marc Raimondi, who spoke to California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster, “Ladd’s team is hoping the commission votes to overturn the bout to a no contest at the hearing in Los Angeles, her manager Dave Hirschbein said. Dean will also be on hand to argue his case, per Foster.”
This has virtually no chance of an overturn, especially when more egregiously early stoppages such as Abdul Razak Alhassan vs. Sabah Homasi I weren’t overturned in other jurisdictions. I suppose it’s worth a hope and a prayer, though.
Ladd does have her next fight lined up for December 7th, when she battles former women’s featherweight title challenger Yana Kunitskaya at UFC on ESPN: Overeem vs. Harris in Washington DC.
De Randamie has parlayed that Ladd win into a title shot, as she’s scheduled to face reigning two-division champion Amanda Nunes in the UFC 245 main event on December 14th.
