What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 150?
A minor disaster that should have been a major disaster is what went wrong last weekend. Augusto Sakai failed to throw the volume I expected out of him and should have lost the decision, but was saved by inept judging. Carla Esparza looked strong against Virna Jandiroba, but Ion Cutelaba’s unexpectedly poor cardio and Court McGee’s inability to properly pressure Dhiego Lima made the event a loss.

Thoughts: Arjan Bhullar looks to be worth the investment.
Juan Adams is ridiculously huge and packs some serious power, but he’s still very much a raw talent. Bhullar is exponentially better than any wrestler “The Kraken” has faced before, showing against Marcelo Golm that he’s not intimidated by physically larger opponents. In addition, Adams struggles to use his reach advantage and has shown some cardio liabilities, which bodes ill against someone in Bhullar who excels in close quarters and has an exhausting style to deal with. Bhullar pulls off a Sikh victory.

Thoughts: Cowboys and hurricanes, oh my.
No one can deny that Al Iaquinta is a gritty, powerful, dangerous S.O.B. with a chip on his shoulder. People can (but probably shouldn’t) deny that Cerrone is all wrong for him. “Ragin’ Al” has historically struggled with rangy strikers and submission specialists, both boxes that Cerrone ticks nicely. Iaquinta has three-inch disadvantages in height and reach and his raw aggression leaves him vulnerable to the intercepting knee that winded Eddie Alvarez and Alexander Hernandez, so if he can’t get the early finish, he’s in for a long night.
It’s also worth noting that Cerrone has some wrestling chops of his own, and Iaquinta wants no piece of him on the ground. All in all, I like Cerrone to pull the upset.
I’m high on Shane Burgos, though I’ll acknowledge that I’m a tad worried about his chin after his knockout loss to Calvin Kattar and the knockdown he suffered against Kurt Holobaugh. When he’s firing on all cylinders, though, he’s a lethal puncher who looks poised to win the sort of wild brawl Swanson enjoys. “Hurricane” Shane is also three inches taller with nearly half a foot of reach advantage, not to mention seven years younger. Burgos will hand Swanson his fourth consecutive loss, and you can get positive odds by parlaying him with Nordine Taleb, who’s fighting a mediocre natural Lightweight on short notice.
