Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, N.M., hosts the latest iteration of UFC on ESPN+ this Saturday evening Feb. 15, 2020), headlined by a Light Heavyweight eliminator between Corey Anderson and Jan Blachowicz. UFC Fight Night 167 also features potentially ludicrous Welterweight bout pitting Diego Sanchez against the hyper-dynamic Michel Pereira and a near-guaranteed “Fight of the Night” between Lando Vannata and Yancy Medeiros.

Need to recoup your losses from UFC 247’s myriad shenanigans? Here’s how:

What Went Wrong at UFC 247?

Ouch!

I thought I was playing it safe, but apparently not safe enough. Miles Johns showed a disturbing lack of pattern recognition and got caught by the fourth or fifth flying knee sent his way, while Juan Adams got leveled in abrupt fashion. It was a chaotic evening overall, so at least I can take solace in the fact that a lot of people felt just as stupid as I did afterward.

UFC Fight Night 167 Odds For The Undercard:

Tim Means (-255) vs. Daniel Rodriguez (+215)
Nathaniel Wood (-160) vs. John Dodson (+140)
Scott Holtzman (-135) vs. Jim Miller (+115)
Merab Dvalishvili (-165) vs. Casey Kenney (+145)
Ray Borg (-140) vs. Rogerio Bontorin (+120)
Macy Chiasson (N/A) vs. Shanna Young (N/A)
Raulian Paiva (-210) vs. Mark De La Rosa (+175)

Thoughts: A takedown specialist and a guy built to destroy takedown specialists are your picks du jour.

Casey Kenney is an extremely adept grappler, boasting a black belt in judo alongside his wrestling pedigree. Unfortunately, he’s consistently struggled to stay on his feet in the Octagon. Ray Borg and Manny Bermudez combined to put him on his back 10 times, and considering that Dvalishvili averages nearly seven takedowns per UFC fight, that’s a bad sign. To make matters worse, Kenney has fought many times at Flyweight in the past, so out-muscling the Georgian fireplug is out of the question. Dvalishvili’s traditional takedown spam figures to net him another victory.

Raulian Paiva is much, much better than his 0-2 Octagon record would suggest, and his excellent defensive grappling makes him a nightmare match up for De La Rosa. “The Bumblebee” — who faces a nearly five-inch reach disadvantage — is badly out-classed on the feet and will struggle mightily to implement his strong submission game against a man he can’t hold down. Paiva will tear him up in the standup, so bank on it.

This might be the nostalgia talking, but a pittance on Jim Miller wouldn’t go astray. He’s on a nice little run, marred only by a predictable loss to Charles Oliveira, and Holtzman just lost to a similarly persistent grappler in Nik Lentz. Though I wouldn’t advise betting the house on “A-10,” I do think he’s a smidge undervalued.

UFC Fight Night 167 Odds For The Main Card:

Corey Anderson (-190) vs. Jan Blachowicz (+165)
Michel Pereira (-165) vs. Diego Sanchez (+145)
Devin Clark (-310) vs. Dequan Townsend (+255)
Montana De La Rosa (-170) vs. Mara Romero Borella (+150)
Brok Weaver (-280) vs. Rodrigo Vargas (+240)
Lando Vannata (-115) vs. Yancy Medeiros (-105)

Thoughts: The ESPN+ main card is looking a little thin; personally, I’d just stick with using one of the heavy favorites to bolster the aforementioned Jim Miller play. Maybe Devin Clark; I’m not high on “Brown Bear” by any stretch of the imagination, but Townsend is a subpar Middleweight stepping up on short notice. There are worse parlay stuffers out there.

UFC Fight Night 167 Best Bets:

  • Parlay — Merab Dvalishvili and Raulian Paiva: Bet $60 to make $82.20
  • Parlay — Jim Miller and Devin Clark: Bet $30 to make $55.20

Between the co-feature, Vannata vs. Medeiros, and some of the undercard slobber knockers, we’re in for a wild evening. See you Saturday, Maniacs!
