Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) hits “The River City” this Saturday (July 20, 2019) with Leon Edwards and Rafael dos Anjos at the helm, both looking to claim a top spot in the Welterweight rankings in UFC on ESPN 4’ main event. Also on tap are a trio of Heavyweight clashes, one of which sees Greg Hardy take on “Contender Series” alum Juan Adams, and a battle between Lightweight finishers Dan Hooker and James Vick.

What Went Wrong at UFC Fight Night 155?
Last week was bad. It was bad enough that I’m actually having a bit of a crisis of faith over whether I’m actually good at this. I do this because I genuinely want to help people make money; therefore, when things go wrong, I don’t get pissed off over looking stupid, I get pissed off over the thought that someone put their trust in my analysis and got burned for it. No excuses, except to say that Livinha Souza fought like an idiot. Onward and upward.

Thoughts: Ray Borg for favorites, Roxy Modafferi for underdogs.
Gabriel Silva’s probably got a higher ceiling than brother Erick Silva just on the strength of his decent gas tank, but still slowed down against Poland’s Kamil Lebkowski when forced to go the distance. His free-swinging striking offense just doesn’t lend itself to prolonged fights, and Borg pushes a furious pace with his wrestling onslaught. Though Silva’s got some takedown chops of his own and will likely be the larger man, coming down from Featherweight, Borg’s superior ground technique and cardio should make up for that.
The key to Jennifer Maia’s success in her first fight, and indeed a good chunk of her Invicta appearances, was her work in the championship rounds. The Brazilian tends to start slow and snowball, allowing opponents to rack up early takedowns and striking damage before her rock-solid fundamentals carry her to victory. Modafferi’s ever-improving wrestling ought to pay considerable dividends if she doesn’t have to budget her energy for 25 minutes, especially since Maia is coming in on short notice and has had issues stuffing takedowns during her Octagon tenure. “The Happy Warrior” evening up the series is likely enough to be worth an investment.

Thoughts: Not the prettiest assortment of potential investments I’ve ever seen. I’ve been burned before, but I’ll bite the bullet and put my faith in Walt Harris. “The Big Ticket” is far faster than Oleinik and generally has solid takedown defense, forcing “The Boa Constrictor” to trade punches with a more seasoned and devastating striker. I’m not sure how much longer the 42-year-old Oleinik can make his style work. Indeed, we saw how crude and ineffective he was against Alistair Overeem on the feet, and though Harris’ Muay Thai technique is well below that level, he makes up for it in sheer horsepower. “The Big Ticket” could certainly throw away another winnable fight, but I believe he’s got this.
