Jon Jones is the betting favorite to become the interim Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight champion when he faces off against Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197 on April 23, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s according to MMAOddsBreaker.com (via ESPN), who pegged “Bones” as a -675 favorite while “OSP” is listed at -450.
Jones was originally scheduled to rematch current division champion Daniel Cormier at the pay-per-view (PPV) event. However, an injury forced “DC” out of the much-anticipated title fight (details).
The talented fighter — who recently claimed everyone in the division was ducking him — jumped at the chance to fill in on three weeks notice against the pound-for-pound great. “OSP” is fresh off a unanimous decision victory over Rafael Cavalcante just last month.
Now, he’ll look to make the most at the unexpected opportunity, as a win will not only give him an interim strap, but the right to face Cormier in a title unification match down the road.
UFC 197 will also feature a Flyweight title fight, as division king Demetrious Johnson faces Henry Cejudo in the co-main event of the evening.
