Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion Chris Weidman will have the opportunity to reclaim his title — ripped from his bloody hands last December — when he takes the stage against Luke Rockhold for their UFC 199 pay-per-view (PPV) rematch in June (full details here).
I’m sure his “All American” fruit basket is already en route to Yoel Romero’s house.
As you might expect, Rockhold is the early favorite for their 185-pound do-over, opening up at -175 on the books at 5Dimes (via OddsShark), likely due to the fact that Weidman (+145) was blown to smithereens in the fourth round of their UFC 194 showdown.
The UFC 199 odds are practically a mirror image of the UFC 194 lines.
Weidman was campaigning for an immediate rematch from day one. Fortunately for him, Rockhold wasn’t opposed to the idea and of course, he had a little help from “Soldier of USADA.” I would also imagine the champ’s win over Ronaldo Souza in Strikeforce — along with “Jacare’s” narrow defeat at UFC 194 — played a supporting role in the promotion’s decision.
Which judging by these comments, may not be a popular one.
