Robbie Lawler dismisses the idea of retiring after his welterweight fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 266.
UFC veteran Robbie Lawler has been around the block a couple of times, but the former welterweight champion has no intention of retiring win-or-lose against Nick Diaz at UFC 266.
‘Ruthless’ said ‘it’s not possible’ that he retires after UFC 266 and that he is still motivated to participate in exciting fights and put on a show for the fans.
“Nah, it’s not possible. I’ve been doing this a long time, my body feels good. It’s just waiting for good fights that get me excited, and this is one of those fights. Nick Diaz is a big name and this is going to be a big event,” Lawler told TMZ Sports ahead of his upcoming rematch with Diaz, who he lost to via second-round KO back in 2004 at UFC 47.
Lawler has been competing in MMA for over 20 years and will continue to do so so long as he feels physically able.
I have no idea (when I will retire). As long as my body feels good and I’m still loving what I’m doing and I can still get in there and train with these guys and hold my own, and I’m enjoying what I’m doing. If all those things are clicking, then I’m going to be doing it. But you never know, things change fast. But I feel good. My body feels good, my mind’s good, so I’m going to keep going,” he said.
UFC 266, which will feature Lawler vs. Diaz on the main card, takes place this Saturday, Sept. 25 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
