Leon Edwards would like to fight Rafael dos Anjos in the UFC 242 co-main event.

Big news came in earlier this week when it was announced that undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov would take on interim champ Dustin Poirier in a title unification bout at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi.

No other match-ups have been announced, but streaking UFC welterweight contender Leon Edwards would like to fight former lightweight titleholder Rafael dos Anjos in the co-main event.

Edwards, who called out RDA in a separate post last month, suggested the bout in response to the UFC’s official announcement of Khabib vs. Poirier.

“Me vs @RdosAnjosMMA co-main,” Edwards tweeted on Tuesday.

Edwards, 27, is on a seven-fight win streak and holds notable wins over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Gunnar Nelson. ‘Rocky’ beat the latter in the UFC Fight Night 147 co-main event and got into a post-fight scrap with Jorge Masvidal backstage at London’s O2 Arena. Despite his impressive win streak, Edwards has been unable to crack the UFC’s top ten welterweight rankings.

Dos Anjos, who is ranked in the top three, recently beat Kevin Lee to snap a two-fight losing streak. The Brazilian submitted ‘The Motown Phenom’ in the UFC Fight Night 152 main event at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.

UFC 242, which is one of the most anticipated pay-per-view events of the year, is scheduled to take place on Sept. 7 at an undisclosed venue in Abu Dhabi.
