Leon Edwards puts Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren on blast at UFC on ESPN 4 post-fight media scrum.
Right after his dominant unanimous decision win against former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos at UFC on ESPN 4, streaking welterweight contender Leon Edwards wasted no time in calling out Jorge Masvidal.
“I’m on an eight-fight winning streak in one of the hardest division’s in the sport,” Edwards said in his post-fight interview. “There’s a little weasel called Jorge Masvidal. Accept the fight and let’s do it. “You’re not on my level. Let’s make the fight happen. Me, Jorge Masvidal. Let’s make the fight happen.”
Masvidal soon got wind of Edwards’ comments and responded via Twitter, blasting Edwards as one of the most boring fighters in the welterweight division.
Big difference between putting top ranked opponents to sleep and putting fans to sleep #bum #whoru

So I can be clear I was promised a title shot after I beat askren and I plan on cashing in on it. Don’t call me out no more until I get that belt #supernecessary

Edwards, who is on an impressive eight-fight win streak, responded by putting Masvidal on blast at a post-fight media scrum. ‘Rocky’ dismissed ‘Gamebred’s’ five-second flying knee knockout of Ben Askren by calling both fighters amateurs.
“I believe Masvidal’s amateur,” Edwards said, per Clyde Aidoo of MMA News. “He’s beat nobody that I can say that, ‘he’s amazing.’ He did a flying knee against Ben. Ben is an amateur. He’s slow, he’s old, he’s a grappler. He’s taken some big confidence from it; I take nothing from it. It’s one of those things. If they fought 10 out of 10 times, that would never happen again. So I believe I’m better than Masvidal anywhere in the fight, and I will get an opportunity to prove it.”
Edwards and Masvidal have a history dating back to UFC Fight Night London, where Masvidal rattled the Brit with a three-punch combination after being verbally provoked during his post-fight interview.
Although nothing has been confirmed, it’s expected that Masvidal will go on to challenge Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title sometime later this year.
