Leonard Ellerbe: Conor McGregor ‘tricked every last one of you’ with training videos

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe is not buying what Conor McGregor has been showing in his training videos.

Conor McGregor has released a few training videos via social media, and not many people have been impressed by them so far. Conclusions have been drawn through these clips, particularly one video that shows a comparison between his training and that of Floyd Mayweather’s.

While many observers were able to be more convinced through these videos that McGregor will end up losing or even get knocked out on August 26th, Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe is not one of them. He even believes it was a ploy that McGregor had both fans and media members fooled with.

“Conor McGregor is a smart dude. He’s a smart dude,” Ellerbe said during the Brooklyn Media tour on Thursday (via MMA Fighting). “Do y’all actually believe that footage he put out there is real? I’m just being honest. Do you honestly believe that he put that footage out there and it’s real looking the way it looked? C’mon now.

“Guess what? He tricked all y’all. Every last one of you,” he continued. “That he looked slow on the bag, he’s doing this and doing that. Y’all can fall for it. We’re not.”

If there is one particular skill of McGregor’s that he would be generally lauded for, it is his punching accuracy. It has brought him great success in his UFC career alone, scoring first round knockouts that he himself predicts beforehand.

As a man involved in boxing for many years, Ellerbe recognizes this, as well, and has taken it into consideration.

“I see a guy who’s got tremendous timing. Tremendous timing. How he’s coming over the top of guys’ jabs and when he touches them and turns it over, and then he’s doing damage. I mean, real damage. If he ain’t knocking him out, they’re falling down. And then they be messed up,” Ellerbe said.

Mayweather vs. McGregor is scheduled for 12 rounds at 154 pounds at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
