Welterweight champion Douglas Lima knows what he did wrong against Gegard Mousasi

The undisputed Bellator welterweight champion, Douglas Lima, did not have a successful run in his first try to become a double champion in the promotion. In a five-round fight against Gegard Mousasi for the vacant middleweight belt, the ‘Phenom’ came up short and dropped a frustrating unanimous decision to the ‘Dreamcatcher’.

On his Instagram page, Lima wrote a lengthy post to his fans, regretting how he respected Mousasi too much during the fight and promises that he would do things differently if he had the chance. In fact, Lima guaranteed that his Bellator 250 outing will not be his last attempt of winning another division title.

“First, thank you God, before anything! Glory is always yours! I stepped on the gas too late and showed way too much respect in this fight! I’m defending my welterweight belt next, but I’m not done with this weight class! I will fight for this MW belt again! I fought one of the best in the world at his weight class! I will learn a lot from this fight and come back better! Thank you all for supporting me and sorry for those that I disappointed as well, it’s not always a big knockout, especially at this level! I will be back really soon! Thank you team and family. I love you all!”

Before the loss to Mousasi, Douglas Lima (32-7) had just reconquered the welterweight strap, when he bested Rory MacDonald via unanimous decision, back in October 2019. At the time, the 32-year-old was on a two-fight winning streak, with stoppage victories over Michael Page and Andrey Koreshkov, as well.
