That was fast.
Not long after getting his release from the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 135-pound division, power-punching bantamweight John Lineker has inked a new deal with ONE Championship in Singapore.
That’s according to “Hands of Stone,” who confirmed last night’s tweet with MMA Fighting. A date for his overseas debut has yet to be confirmed, but now is probably a good time to mention that his new home has long-since abandoned weight cutting.
“I’m really happy to sign with ONE,” Lineker told Guilherme Cruz. “I believe I’ll be very welcome there. They love strikers over there in Asia, so it’s gonna be a great new home for me. I’m happy and excited. I’m a brawler, you know? I love this stuff. The more exciting, the better. It’s going to be really exciting to fight there.”
Lineker (31-9) captured eight of his last 10 fights with four finishes and was widely regarded as one of the more exciting bantamweights on the UFC roster. Unfortunately, his struggles on the scale, and what UFC President Dana White referred to as “unprofessionalism,” sent him on his way.
Any ideas on a potential opponent?
