Bellator 238: “Budd vs. Cyborg” airs TONIGHT (Sat., Jan. 25, 2020) from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., streaming exclusively online via DAZN. Undefeated in her Bellator tenure, “The Jewel” Julia Budd (13-2) faces her most fearsome opponent to date in Cris Cyborg (21-2, 1 NC) with the women’s Featherweight title on the line.
Bellator 238’s main card will start at 10 p.m. ET on DAZN with “Prelims” undercard bouts at 7 p.m. ET. MMAmania.com will deliver results and play-by-play for the entirety of the Bellator MMA card.

BELLATOR 238 PLAY-BY-PLAY:
Julia Budd vs. Cris Cyborg
Undefeated in 11 straight fights dating back to 2012, “The Jewel” Julia Budd comes in 13-2 fighting out of Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada. Widely regarded as the top 145 lb. woman NOT named Budd, Cris Cyborg brings a record of 21-2, 1 NC as a former champion in Strikeforce, Invicta and most recently UFC, fighting out of San Diego, California. Cyborg sports blue gloves, a purple top and purple trunks with gold accents clearly meant to appeal to Lakers fans. White top and trunks with red gloves for Budd. The referee in charge of our main event is Mike Beltran. They touch gloves twice during final instructions.
Round 1: Budd takes the center and Cyborg fires two body shots early as she backs Budd up into the cage. Budd turns her around in clinch. Budd stomps on the feet and kicks at the legs. Cyborg gains separation and throws a knee. Cyborg hits a trip takedown at 1:12. Budd scrambles back to her feet 12 seconds later and Cyborg rushes her into the fence. Budd turns her around. They trade knees. Cyborg turns her into the fence at 2:23. More knees and clinch work both ways. Cyborg backs up and throws a knee to the body. Cyborg throws a kick and slips, Budd jumps on top, Cyborg has her legs around Budd’s head but Budd slips to side control and then ends up North-South. Cyborg starts to get up and Budd throws a knee that was aimed at the shoulder but may have grazed the head. Beltran gives a verbal warning at the stoppage but doesn’t deduct a point since Cyborg seems to be okay. Cyborg drops Budd with a right hand and jumps on top. Budd grabs Cyborg’s head and pulls her chest to chest. Cyborg backs up and jumps on for hammers at the bell. 10-9 Cyborg.
Round 2: Cyborg trips Budd to the ground on a leg kick then goes for a flurry of strikes as Budd gets back up, looking to take the back as Budd widens her stands to avoid going to the ground. Cyborg pushers her into the cage and they break at 55 seconds. Cyborg throws body shots and goes back to the fence. They trade stand up and Cyborg goes for the underhooks. Cyborg draws a warning for fingers to the eye. Knees both ways. They break at the halfway point. Leg kick from Cyborg spins Budd around. Budd throws a push kick. They clinch and Cyborg puts Budd into the cage. Cyborg tries to slash with the right elbow. Cyborg goes for clinch knees and leg kicks. Budd steps forward at 4:06. Budd shoots for a takedown at 4:45 but has to block knees back in return. 10-9 Cyborg.
Round 3: Cyborg clinches but Budd gets the dominant position against the fence until Cyborg turns it around at 39 seconds. Budd gets the underhooks and turns her back at 1:14. Budd drops levels for a potential single leg but lets it go. They each throw knees and Cyborg throws a leg kick on the break. Budd pops the left jab and throws the front kick. Cyborg with a body shot. Cyborg lands a right hand and takes Budd down in the process. Two minutes remain. She pulls out and stands over the top looking to drop bombs. Budd puts her hands behind her head and looks for upkicks. Cyborg jumps back down into side control. Cyborg gets another fingers to the eye warning. Right elbows to the body from Cyborg. Budd covers up for late ground and pound. 10-9 Cyborg.
Round 4: Cyborg moves forward throwing leg kicks and draws yet another “FINGERS” warning from Mike Beltran. Cyborg starts bombing away at the one minute mark when she gets Budd against the fence. Budd crumbles from a body shot and it’s over.
Final result: Cris Cyborg via technical knockout (body shot) at 1:14 of the fourth round.
Darrion Caldwell vs. Adam Borics
Borics is 14-0, hailing from Hungary but fighting out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He sports the black Venum trunks and blue gloves tonight. Former Bantamweight champion Caldwell is 14-3 from Rahway, New Jersey but fights out of Redlands, California. He has the dark red American Ethanol trunks and red gloves for this Featherweight Grand Prix “Elite Eight” fight. The referee for our co-main event is Jason Herzog.
Round 1: No glove tap to start although Borics appeared to be offering it. Caldwell explodes forward with a kick and resets. Borics controls the center. Leg kick from Borics. Caldwell attacks with multiple head kicks then gets a takedown at 1:08. Borics tries to trap his head for a guillotine as he does. Caldwell pops out and goes for Borics’ back against the fence. Borics tries to cover his head as Caldwell attacks with elbows. He slips in the rear naked choke and Borics taps out at 2:20. Caldwell back flips off the cage to celebrate.
Final result: Darrion Caldwell wins via submission (RNC) at 2:20 of the first round.
Sergio Pettis vs. Alfred Khashakyan
Red trunks and blue gloves for “Fearless” Alfred Khashakyan, 11-4, fighting out of Glendale, California. Black trunks and red gloves for Sergio Pettis, 18-5, fighting out Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The referee in charge is Frank Trigg.
Round 1: Leg kick for Pettis. Push kick for Khashakyan. Body kick for Pettis. Stiff counter right by Pettis. Leg kick for Pettis. Right hand by Khashakyan. Pettis works the left jab. Head kick attempt for Khashakyan is checked. Pettis stings Khashakyan with a left. Khashakyan is dropped with a right and Pettis pours it on with more rights on the ground, then Pettis squeezes the neck in a guillotine choke until Khashakyan goes out cold.
Final result: Sergio Pettis by technical submission (guillotine) at 3:00 in the first round.
Raymond Daniels vs. Jason King
Dark trunks and red gloves for the 1-1 Daniels, fighting out of Orange, California. Black/red trunks and blue gloves for the 8-5 King, fighting out of Knoxville, Tennessee. The referee in charge is Mike Beltran.
Round 1: Daniels knocks King down with a side kick. King ducks under a spin kick and pushes Daniels into the fence. Daniels turns him around and they trade knees. Daniels takes a knee to the groin and Beltran calls time. He tells them to keep it clean and they touch gloves for the restart. Spin kick by Daniels. Another kick. Daniels drops him with a left hand and lets him back up. He drops him with a right and King goes for a single leg. Daniels throws a spin kick. King is flopping to his back. King gets up slowly. Axe kick. King goes for a leg lock. Daniels gets on top and hammers it out. Beltran stops it at 3:07.
Final result: “Real Deal” Raymond Daniels by TKO at 3:07 of the first round.
Ava Knight vs. Emilee King
Black top and trunks with blue gloves for the 3-3 King. White top and trunks with red gloves for the 1-0 Knight. King fights out of Knoxville, Tennessee. Knight fights out of Los Angeles, California. The referee in charge is Jason Herzog.
Round 1: Tap of gloves to start. Knight blasts her right away with a couple of right hands and then gets a takedown, but King sweeps and ends up on top in full mount with the head trapped. Knight tries and fails to buck her off and King goes for the armbar. Knight survives it and winds up back on top. King sweeps and gets side control then ends up taking the back with a hook in with three minutes left. Herzog takes a close look as King goes for the rear naked choke and Knight passes out without tapping out.
Final result: Emilee King by submission (rear naked choke) at 2:18 of round one.
Juan Archuleta vs. Henry Corrales
Silver trunks and blue gloves for the 23-2 Archuleta out of Venice Beach, California. Black trunks and red gloves for the 17-4 Corrales out of Whittier, California. Our referee in charge is Blake Grice.
Round 1: Glove tap and we’re underway. Corrales takes the center and Archuleta shifts his footwork laterally on the outside. Corrales checks the head kicks coming his way but doesn’t seem to be able to cut the angles which Archuleta dances in and out of the range in front of him. 2:30 gone. Both men swing and miss by a mile. Leg kick from Archuleta. The crowd is getting impatient as the time drains by due to a lack of striking both ways. Corrales lands a nice right hand at 4:10. Archuleta goes for the single leg at 4:48 but doesn’t get it. Wild strikes both ways. 10-9 Archuleta.
Round 2: Corrales lands a kick to the leg 33 seconds in. Archuleta continues to dance on the outer circle and force Corrales to meet him on his terms, pumping the left jab as he moves side to side. Archuleta lands the jabs and the leg kicks. Corrales seems to be getting mesmerized by the movement. Left hook from Corrales at 2:58. Archuleta responds with a double jab. Archuleta gets a takedown when Corrales charges in, but he gets back up and separates with over 70 seconds left. The crowd is getting restless again. Corrales gets a takedown with a second left. 10-9 Archuleta.
Round 3: Archuleta lands a hard right hand 54 seconds in. Corrales tags Archuleta with his own right at 1:45. Left from Corrales. Leg kick Archuleta. Commentary can’t get over the fact Corrales only throws one shot at a time. Grice tells both men that they need to engage. Two minutes left. Leg kick for Corrales. Stiff left for Archuleta. Archuleta ducks a shot and connects with his own. They trade hands at 30 seconds. Corrales just misses with the overhand right. They trade leather at the bell. 10-9 Corrales.
Final result: All three judges score it 29-28 for Juan Archuleta by unanimous decision.
Aaron Pico vs. Daniel Carey
Pico is 4-3 in the red gloves and black trunks fighting out of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Carey is 7-3 in the blue gloves and black trunks, fighting out of Oakland, California. Our referee in charge is Mike Beltran.
Round 1: Carey throws a head kick right away. Pico steps forward for a body kick and a leg kick, keeping his hands up defensively. Carey’s hands are low around his waist. Carey kicks the arm a couple of times then kicks the leg. Pico keeps throwing the overhand right. He’s backing Carey toward the cage. Takedown for Pico at 1:18. Pico lands a nice elbow as Carey tries to sit up. More follow. Pico stands up and drops a bomb before coming back down to posture up on top and land elbows. Pico locks down the half guard and attacks with lefts. Pico backs up with 45 seconds left then comes back to hurt Carey with an elbow. He backs up again with 20 seconds left and lets Carey back up. Carey charges forward with a head kick and Pico blocks it with his hand. 10-9 Pico.
Round 2: Body kick and leg kick for Carey. Pico drops him with a left forearm shot and it’s over at 15 seconds in R2.
Final result: Aaron Pico by knockout at 0:15 of the second round.
Jay Jay Wilson vs. Mario Navarro
Wilson is 4-0 in the red gloves and black trunks out of San Diego, California. Navarro is 4-5 in the blue gloves and leopard trunks, fighting out of Orange, California with a combination mohawk and mullet. The referee is Milan Ayers.
Round 1: Quick glove tap gets us underway. Wilson puts his opponent on the fence and finally trips his way to a takedown at 1:22. Wilson pours on the ground and pound and Ayers warns Navarro to fight back and at the last possible second he moves. 1:50 left in R1. Navarro tries to get back up and gets taken down again with 10 seconds left, losing a possible guillotine in the process. Dominant first round for Wilson. 10-8.
Round 2: Wilson lands a big right hand and gets a takedown immediately. Wilson keeps trying to move to side control but as he does Navarro tries to get a single leg and Wilson tries to counter it into a twister. After all of that Navarro ends up on top in side control. Wilson sweeps and gets full mount on the back landing big shots, then starts fishing for the submission. Wilson snaps the arm back and gets the tap at 2:48
Final result: Jay Jay Wilson via submission (armbar) at 2:48 of the second round.
Chris Avila vs. Anthony Taylor
Taylor is 6-5 in the red gloves and purple trunks, fighting out of Long Beach, California. Avila is 6-8 in the blue gloves and black trunks, fighting out of Stockton, California. Our referee in charge is Frank Trigg.
Round 1: Avila comes forward quickly to throw a kick and Taylor clocks him with a left hand that makes him stumble. He lands it again as Avila resets. Taylor circles on the outside as Avila tries to wing shots. Taylor lands to the body and the right to the head. Avila tries to give chase. He’s leaning way forward and winging out the shots. We’re reminded that the last time Taylor fought in Bellator was a loss to Adam Borics. Avila eats an uppercut and keeps coming forward. Left kick for Avila. Clinch boxing. Avila keeps walking into the right hand. Clean left hook from Taylor. Avila pushes Taylor into the fence to throw knees. They spin around until Taylor breaks off with 40 seconds to go. Leg kick from Avila. Taylor shoots and gets a takedown with 13 seconds left. 10-9 Taylor. Avila pushes Taylor away with both feet AFTER Trigg stopped the action.
Round 2: Trigg warns the fighters to keep it clean as round two gets underway. Taylor comes out swinging hard. Leg kicks from Avila. Avila eats the right hand again and kicks Taylor in the butt. Avila misses with a kick. Taylor connects with a left. Taylor with a shot straight down the pipe. Avila with a left jab and a front kick. Taylor tags Avila several times. Overhand right from Taylor. Avila is talking smack to him. Taylor with a left hook. Avila with a right. He looks so awkward in his striking stance. It’s like he’s trying to imitate a gorilla even though he’s long and skinny. There’s blood coming from his nose. Avila’s best weapon is his leg kicks. 10-9 Taylor.
Round 3: Josh Thomson says “I don’t like how he’s hunched over” as Chris Avila continues to use his unorthodox stance in R3. Mike Goldberg: “Especially with the knee that comes right up the middle.” Leg kick from Avila. Taylor tries to drop levels but Avila steps free. Avila is landing better strikes this round but Taylor takes him down with 2:30 left. Avila transitions it to an armbar and tries to crank it up but Taylor gets free at stands up at 2:51. Taylor goes for the single leg and nearly gets it but Avila jumps his back in the scramble. Taylor escapes it and goes back to the single leg. Trigg warns Avila not to grab the cage. Taylor gets the takedown but Avila momentarily had a guillotine. One minute to go as both men stand and trade. Avila pushes Taylor into the fence. Avila tries to take the back and throws a knee to the body then clips Taylor with a shot that seems to make him a little woozy. Ten seconds. 10-9 Avila.
Final result: The judges score it 28-28, 29-28 X2 for Taylor by majority decision.
David Pacheco vs. Miguel Jacob
Jacob is 3-0 in the red gloves and black trunks, fighting out of Los Angeles, California. Pacheco is 1-0 in the blue gloves and black trunks, fighting out of Riverside, California. The referee is Milan Ayers.
Round 1: A glove tap gets us underway. Jacob tries to take the center and Pacheco pushes him backward, and 30 seconds in they are letting their hands and feet fly. Jacob lands a Superman punch even as he continues to backpedal. Jacob pushes him into the fence to throw knees as Ayers reminds them to stay busy. Pacheco turns him around they break. Pacheco comes forward with the left jab and kick. Jacob’s chin gets tested by the jab. They trade kicks with two minutes left. Pacheco tries to walk Jacob down. Inside leg kick for Pacheco. They trade stiff strikes at 4:01. Pacheco with the strong left hook. Another fire fight at 4:30. Jacob lands a flurry and a head kick and a spinning backfist as he rallies the crowd. Close first round. The commentary seems to think Jacob won it but I’m going to narrowly edge it 10-9 to Pacheco.
Round 2: Pacheco pokes Jacob in the eye early in R2 and we get a time out. The ref asks Jacob if he can clear his vision or if he needs the doctor. It takes him about a minute but he’s ready to continue. Ironically Pacheco is the one bleeding from around his eye due to the exchange of strikes early in the ring. Blood is streaming down his face around his right eye. Pacheco eats another Superman punch from Jacob. Pacheco is trying to move sideways to cut the angle and keep Jacob against the fence but Jacob’s handiwork with his hands is battering Pacheco. Josh Thomson is complimenting Jacob on his head movement to avoid a lot of Pacheco’s strikes. Another Superman punch from Jacob. Pacheco tags Jacob with a shot and Jacob returns the favor. Leg kicks from Pacheco. Jacob misses with the head kick. Both men are slowing down and staying closer to the center. You can see Pacheco start to flinch now whenever Jacob teases head shots. 10-9 Jacob.
Round 3: Friendly tap of gloves to start the final round is followed by an immediate flurry of strikes both ways. Pacheco is trying to cut the angles again and Jacob backs him off and lands about five or six strikes starting with a straight right. Pacheco clinches to get a break and then looks to drop levels. Jacob breaks free and throws a head kick and pumps the overhand right. Jacob has more bounce to his step. Pacheco takes two hard rights. Jacob throws a spinning backfist. Jacob is getting the better of the phone booth exchanges. Pacheco’s face looks swollen and his demeanor is flat footed. Body kick from Jacob. Left hand snaps Pacheco’s chin. And again. Body shot from Pacheco. Combo from Jacob. Stiff right hand from Jacob twice. Push kick from Jacob. Pacheco pops Jacob with a right. Jacob teases a shot but doesn’t change levels. Pacheco gets his head snapped back again. He comes forward for one last exchange to end it. 10-9 Jacob.
Final result: The judges score it 30-27, 30-26, 30-27 for Miguel Jacob.
Brandon Bender vs. Joshua Jones
Blue gloves and purple trunks for Jones, 9-5, fighting out of Long Beach, California. Red gloves and black trunks for Bender, 12-1, fighting out of Rancho Cucamonga, California. The referee is Frank Trigg.
Round 1: Flying knee immediately for Jones. Bender gets his hands up to block a head kick. Trigg is warning them to watch their fingers as they trade hands. Jones gets a takedown to half guard. Bender gets a reversal and takes the back at 2:40. Jones has some blood flowing on his face from a shot Bender hit him with before Jones took him down. Jones stands up with Bender riding on his back looking for a submission. Jones shakes him off and tries to unload with ground and pound against the cage. Bender goes for a heel hook late but Jones survives. 10-9 Bender.
Round 2: Both men swing hard to open R2. Jones gets a takedown at 44 seconds and tries to take half guard but Bender pushes him back to full guard. Jones smothers him and lays in the left and right elbows. Trigg wants more activity though. Bender traps a leg and sweeps on top at the halfway mark. Jones tries to sweep back but Bender traps his head. Jones escapes and is on top in half. Bender puts him back in full again. Jones tries to posture up as Bender tries to hold him down. Trigg calls for “work to finish” with 1:16 left. Hard left elbow by Jones. 10-9 Jones.
Round 3: Bender lands a right hand as Jones pushes forward, and the two break off the fence at 23 seconds. Bender comes forward and Jones backs up to throw leg kicks. Head kick from Jones is partially checked. Leg kick. Bender walks toward him and they trade hands. Jones snaps the head back with lefts and gets a takedown at 2:18. Jones stands up with 75 seconds left and Bender goes for a single leg. Jones responds by going for a kimura. Bender gets side control at 4:37. Too little too late. They get up and swing and Jones gets one more takedown late. 10-9 Jones.
Final result: Jones by unanimous decision of 30-26, 30-27, 29-27.

AJ Agazarm vs. Adel Altamimi
Agazarm is 2-1 in the red gloves and red trunks out of Stockton, California. Altamimi is 8-6 in the blue gloves and black trunks, fighting out of Hollywood, California. Jason Herzog is the referee for this bout.
Round 1: No glove tap to start. Agazarm circles on the outside looking for the takedowns. Altamimi catches a kick, knocks him down with a left, then lets him back up. Leg kick from Agazarm. Big kick from Altamimi as Agazarm shoots. Agazarm’s takedown is stuffed, he flops to his back, and Altamimi lets him back up. The crowd boos as Agazarm doesn’t seem to want to engage with his hands. He finally lands a jab. Leg kick for Altamimi. Agazarm shoots and is stuffed. High kick for Altamimi is checked. Leg kick for Altamimi. Altamimi misses with a spin kick. Agazarm clips Altamimi with a shot behind the ear that may have stung him for a second. Agazarm misses badly on a single leg and eats a right hook. 10-9 Altamimi. They talk trash as Herzog steps between them to break it up.
Round 2: Agazarm keeps looking for the takedowns and only using his hands sporadically to set it up. Most of the time he has them up in front of his head defensively. He misses wildly with a kick. Altamimi does not. Agazarm comes forward and eats a right hook and a leg kick. Altamimi hurts him with a left hand and starts pouring it on against the fence, rocking Agazarm again as he runs away, Agazarm trying to pull guard or get a takedown, and he finally gets the takedown at 2:18. Agazarm is rolling from one submission attempt to the next and working hard for a kimura. Agazarm switches to taking the back and then gets on top in mount. Altamimi gives up his back and Agazarm pours on the ground and pound as Altamimi keeps rolling trying to survive. Agazarm goes for the rear naked choke but doesn’t have it and lets it go. 10-9 Agazarm.
Round 3:Agazarm is landing some good shots standing to start R3 and has backed Altamimi up to the fence. Altamimi shoots and Agazarm allows him to looking to secure a submission, and he’s also landing unblocked shots to the head with his left. He rolls for the combination triangle and armbar and Altamimi taps out at 1:22.
Final result: AJ Agazarm via submission (triangle) at 1:22 in the third round.
Curtis Millender vs. Moses Murrietta
Blue gloves and black trunks for Murrietta, 8-3, fighting out of Montana, California. Red gloves and silver/black trunks for Millender, 17-5, fighting out of Fullerton, California. The referee in charge is Blake Grice.
Round 1: Neither man wastes any time testing the other’s chin in the first 20 seconds. Millender fires off leg kicks as Murrietta circles. Millender goes for the head kick and it’s checked but the overhand right hand connects. Murrietta kicks the kick and the knee. Millender throws the high kick. Millender with a body shot. It connects again. Left jabs repeatedly. Head kick attempt. Body shot. Murrietta kicks the knee. Spinning back kick for Millender. Millender to the body again. One-two combo for Millender. Body shot. Left hook. Straight shot to the face. Left hook for Murrietta. Leg kick Murrietta. Millender hurts him with a right hand. 40 seconds to go. 10-9 Millender.
Round 2: R2 starts just like R1 with the addition of Millender talking a little smack. Millender drops Murrietta at 48 seconds. He follows up with leg kicks, lefts, overhand right, and wings another right as Murrietta kicks the leg. Murrietta gets wobbled by another right and he’s circling trying to recover. Millender keeps tagging him. Head kick by Millender at 2:05. Leg kick. Right. Head kick. Head kick again. Millender moves his head out of the way, leaning back whenever Murrietta throws strikes. Left jab to the nose. Right to the jaw. Left high kick. Leg kick by Millender. Body shot by Murrietta. Six punch combo by Millender. Uppercut misses. Stiff jab from Millender. Millender gets a takedown at 4:37 and he goes for a d’arce choke late. Murrietta survives. 10-8 Millender.
Round 3: Millender hurts Murrietta again with the right hand and his face is a puffy mess. Millender just pops the right hand at will. He’s also kicked Murrietta’s left leg so many times that he is having trouble putting weight on it. Murrietta shoots at 2:51 looking for a takedown. Millender fends it off and breaks free at 3:17.
