Bellator 298 is set to go down TONIGHT (Fri., Aug. 11, 2023) inside Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D., headlined by a Welterweight bout between Logan Storley vs. Brennan Ward, airing exclusively on Showtime. Co-headlining the event is a Heavyweight title tilt between former interim champion, Valentin Moldavsky, and Steve Mowry.

The undercard will also feature several intriguing matches, including Lucas Brennan vs. Weber Almeida, and Diana Avsaragova taking on Justine Kish.

BELLATOR 298 PLAY-BY-PLAY:

Logan Storley vs. Brennan Ward

Round 1: Low kick to start from Storley. Double jabs land for Ward. Storley goes in and gets an early single-leg takedown. Back to the feet they go. Jab from Ward and a counter-right hand from Storley. Ward with a nasty left hook cracks Storley’s jaw. Storley shoots and gets the takedown and is now in side control. Ward trying to work his way up but Storley with a strong base. Storley rips the body with shots to the rib cage. Upstairs now for Storley, who is in full control of Ward. Storley looks like he’s trying an arm-triangle, lets it go. Storley not content with just holding Ward down, working his strikes from top position with great volume. Storley now in full guard as the round comes to an end. 10-9 Storley

Round 2: Ward comes out with a strong jab. Storley with a nice low kick and Wards connects with an uppercut. Ward working his jabs nicely to the head and body. Overhand right connects for Ward. Storley with a low kick and he goes in for another takedown. Side control. Ward talking to Storley, telling him to let it get back to the feet. Storley, obviously, doesn’t oblige. Storley with a nasty elbow the crushes Ward. Storley starting to unleash some big ground-and-pound. Relentless attack from Storley, one shot after another prompts the ref to step in to put an end to the fight. Ward protests and has some words for Storley. :

Final result: Storley def. Ward via second-round technical knockout (TKO)



Valentin Moldavsky vs. Steve Mowry

Round 1: Mowry tries to be the aggressor early on. They clinch in the center of the cage. Moldavksy with the over-under. Mowry reverses position and is landing some knees to the mid-section. Moldavsky pushes Mowry up against the cage and he scores a takedown. Mowry gets back up to his feet and they separate. Stiff jab from Moldavsky, who gets the clinch and scores another takedown. Moldavsky all over Mowry. Side control for Moldavsky. Big shots from the top position for the Russian big man. Moldavsky now in full guard. Mowry trying to escape and manages to do so with a huge up-kick. Moldavsky once again clinches and scores the double-leg takedown. 10-9 Moldavsky

Round 2: Moldavsky scores another quick takedown and starts to unload big shots. Moldavsky now in full guard. Mowry fights his way back to his feet. Huge push kick lands for Mowry, but Moldavsky wastes no time in getting in and scoring another takedown. Mowry is a fish out of water with Moldavsky drenched all over him. Shots to the side of the head for Moldavsky, who is dominating this fight with his grappling. Mowry has not manages to fire off much offense, pace dictated by Moldavsky. Fans are not happy and are raining down the boo birds. The ref agrees with the fans and stands up the fighters. Mowry shoots for the takedown, stuffed. Moldavky shoots in again, stuffed as the round comes to an end. 10-9 Moldavsky

Round 3: Like clockwork, Moldavsky shoots in and gets the takedown rather easily, the seventh for him on the night. Full guard for Moldavsky. This is a mirror image of the first two rounds. Moldavsky dominating, Mowry can’t do anything on the ground against Moldavsky, who is slowly and rather easily grinding away. The referee is not much of a fan of this technique, stands them up again. High lick from Mowry is blocked. Moldavsky against changes levels and now Mowry takes his back. Moldavsky with a great spin move, drops down and scores the double leg takedown. Moldavsky is content with letting the clock wind down while he is in guard. Smart strategy. Not appealing to the eyes, but smart. 10-9 Moldavsky

Final result: Moldavsky def. Mowry via unanimous decision



Dalton Rosta vs. Aaron Jeffery

Round 1: Rosta takes the center of the cage quickly. Two jabs land for Rosta. Three-punch combo from Rosta. who is coming out aggressive. The clinch and are now up against the cage. Stiff jab lands for Rosta. Jeffery still pushing forward and he clinches his foe up against the cage. Stalemate up against the cage. Rosta working the shots to the body. Rosta changing levels, eyes a takedown. Jeffery eats a huge right hook off the break. Jeffery gets some space and is now working his low kicks. Jeffery switches it up and he now has Rosta up against the cage. It doesn’t take long for Rosta get the better position. Jeffery seems to clip Rosta with a nee to a head as the round comes to an end. The referee warns Jeffery, no point taken away. 10-9 Rosta

Round 2: Jeffery pushing the pace early in the second round. Rosta doing a great job of evading the big strikes. Ros. ta shoots for a takedown and Jeffery grabs a hold of his neck and is now looking for a choke. Rosta manages to get out. Jeffery not giving up on the choke, lands some knees to the mid-section. Rosta can not break free from Jeffery’s grip. Jeffery is now starting to unload. Jeffery still has the front choke, not doing much with it. Rosta is trying hard to break free but Jeffery is relentless and will not be letting go anytime soon. Technical difficulties.

Final result: Jeffery def. Rosta via unanimous decision



James Gallagher vs. James Gonzalez

Round 1: Gonzalez opens up with a thunderous spinning back kick. Gallagher grabs a hold of Gonzalez and drags him down to the canvas, up against the cage. Gonzalez working his escapes, but Gallagher has a tight hold of him, now in full guard. Gallagher postures and tries to unload some ground-and-pound. Gallagher all the way up to his feet and Gonzalez looking for a heel hook. Up kicks land for Gonzalez. Gallagher turns his body around, looks for a guillotine and once again gets into his foe’s guard. Gonzalez grabs a hold of Gallagher and brings him in close. Gonzalez still has a hold of his heel, and Gallagher is now returning the favor due to an awkward position they are in. Gallagher unloads some nice ground and pound to seal the round for himself. 10-9 Gallagher

Round 2: Spinning back kick again from Gonzalez. And another. Gallagher evades both. Gallagher fakes a flying knee then shoots for the takedown, stuffed. Gallagher relentless and manages to drag Gonzalez down. He takes his back and is looking for a rear-naked choke. Gonzalez turns it around but now has the fiery Irishman on top of him raining down elbows. Short shots to the rib cage from Gonzalez, not having much effect. Gallagher trying to mount, good defense from Gonzalez. Gallagher now in full guard, raining down elbows to the dome. Gonzalez once again tries to escape but no-go. Gallagher once again ends the round on top position raining down ground-and-pound. Dominating the fight so far. 10-9 Gallagher

Round 3: Gallagher opens up with a sold kick to the body. Gonzalez picking up the pace and goes in with a flurry of strikes. Gallagher retreating and Gonzalez is now throw caution to the wins with haymakers, connecting on a few. Gallagher has seen enough and quickly takes the fight to the ground again. Gonzalez manages to sneak out the back and he is now in side control. Starts unloading big, powerful shots and Gallagher does not like it one bit. North-South position and Gonzalez switches to side control. Two minutes left in the fight. Half guard now for Gonzalez. Elbows connecting for Gonzalez, who needs a finish here. Gonzalez trying to unload more ground-and-pound with only 30 seconds remaining in the fight. Gonzalez ends the fight on top, but it’s going to be too little, too late. 10-9 Gonzalez

Final result: Gallagher def. Gonzalez via split decision



Sidney Outlaw vs. Islam Mamedov

Round 1: They touch gloves. Mamedov opens up with a low kick. Outlaw drops Mamedov with a solid jab right away, but Mamedov jumps right back up. Solid right hand lands for Mamedov, whips Outlaw’s head straight back. Outlaw changes levels and scores the takedown, pushes Mamedov up against the cage. Mamedov is busted open from his nose. Outlaw driving the knees to the back of Mamedov’s thighs. Outlaw drags his for back down to the mat. Mamedov gets back up only to get dragged back down. Outlaw is draped all over Mamedov’s back, who is looking for a backdoor escape, and he gets it. Mamedov now takes Outlaw’s back and gets a rear-naked choke. Outlaw manages to get out of it and he now takes Mamedov’s back. Great grappling exchanges here. 10-9 Outlaw

Round 2: Mamedov keeps touching his nose, seems bothered by it. Outlaw circling, eats a low kick to the shin. Push kick from Outlaw sends Mamedov back. Nice stiff jab lands for Outlaw. The action has slowed a bit in the first two minutes of the second round. Mamedov shoots in for a takedown but Outlaw evades. One-two sneaks through the guard of Mamedov. Outlaw changes level and grabs on to a single leg and he scores another takedown. Four for six in the takedown department for Outlaw, who is easily controlling the pace of this fight. Mamedov manages to get back up and grabs the cage on the way down, keeps him upright, happened right in front of the ref and no penalty was assessed. Mamedov manages to reverse positions and is now in Outlaw’s guard. Side control for Mamedov. Outlaw once again manages to reverse position as the round comes to an end. 10-9 Outlaw

Round 3: Uppercut lands for Mamedov to start things off in the final round. Mamedov needs a finish since Outlaw should be up on all the judges scorecards. Outlaw circling and lands a sneaky overhand right. Nice jab for Mamedov, needs more of that. Mamedov lands another nice uppercut, goes for the spinning back kick and gets taken down for his troubles. That is Outlaw’s eight takedown of the fight. Mamedov manges to get up and drives to drive some knees to Outlaw’s mid-section as he goes in for the takedown. Outlaw still has dominant control, Mamedov can’t break free for his vice-like grip. Mamedov with some short elbow from bottom, but that simply isn’t going to get the job done. 10-9 Outlaw

Final result: Outlaw def. Mamedov via unanimous decision
