The UFC returns to Brazil this weekend when the last Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold takes on Vitor Belfort in the main event. There are number of interesting angles to the bout, but the issue with Belfort’s use of TRT. It’s interesting for any number of reasons, not least of which appears to be the complete irrationality of MMA’s culture of drug enforcement.
I say that because Pat Healy’s win over Jim Miller at UFC 159 has been moved to a no content due to Healy popping positive for marijuana. To add insult to injury, the UFC took back his $130,000 in bonus money. I can scarcely think of a more irrational commitment to bad ideas than the UFC spending money to test fighters on TRT in the middle of their camps. Yet, there appears to be no money anywhere in sight that would allow the UFC or athletic commissions to use blood tests with marijuana, the only test that reliably indicates the time of the drug’s usage.
Oh, and Bigfoot Silva said some awesome things on yesterday’s UFC 160 conference call.
