One of boxing’s pound-for-pound best fighters steps back into the ring after a year-long layoff TONIGHT (Sat., Aug. 3, 2024), as Terence Crawford squares off against Ismail Madrimov in an attempt to claim gold in his fourth weight class. Action will come to you live from inside BMO Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif., and streamed globally on DAZN starting at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) looked like a true boxing elite last summer, taking out fellow undefeated champion, Errol Spence, in a masterclass that saw him dominate the fight from round two onward (watch highlights). “Bud” won every round on every judges scorecard, out-landing and finally taking out Spence to earn worldwide praise and the IBF, WBA and WBC Welterweight titles to his overflowing trophy chest. Tonight, he looks to move up in weight again and faces a legitimately talented and dangerous world champion in Madrimov.

Madrimov is a boxer who most casual fans probably aren’t aware of, but that doesn’t make him some bum. His match this past March against Magomed Kurbanov — a fellow undefeated (at that time) boxer with a 25-0 record — for WBA’s Super Welterweight title put the boxing world on notice that he’s one of the best in the world at 154 pounds.

The undercard is a spicy one, with WBA Super Lightweight champion, Isaac Cruz, putting his strap on the line against Jose Valenzuela and former unified Heavyweight champion, Andy Ruiz, throwing down with the enormous (305 pounds!), Jarrell Miller.

Crawford Vs. Madrimov Quick Results:

154 lbs.: Terence Crawford def. Israil Madrimov — Unanimous Decision (116-112, 115-113 x2)
140 lbs.: Jose Valenzuela def. Isaac Cruz — Split Decision (116-112 x2, 113-115)

Aside from Mike Tyson, we’ve got Roberto Duran, Vasyli Lomachenko, Alicia Keys, Vince Vaughn, Scottie Pippen, Kate Beckinsale, Jeremy Piven, Wiz Khalifa, Julio Cesar Chavez, James Harden, DeSean Jackson… Valenzuela avoiding most of Cruz’s shots this round so far, only getting tagged to the body sporadically. Valenzuela with a right, gets touched by one in return.

10-9 Cruz

Round 10: Cruz coming forward, neither man landing clean so far a minute in. Valenzuela with a counter right. Cruz with two rights that hit half glove, half chin. At least half of the commentary booth thinks Valenzuela is way ahead, but man, I’m not sure about that. Cruz looking to counter, does land a left at the clapper.

10-9 Cruz

Round 11: I just looked, and I have it 7-3 Cruz, so I guess I’m not sure I’m giving Valenzuela credit for his accuracy, as he’s getting hit by the power shots of Cruz. Andy Ruiz vs. Jarrell Miller

Round 1: Miller in blue, Ruiz in black. Ruiz starts by backing Miller up with his footwork. Very little happening this round, as neither man wants to lead the dance; both looking to counter. Ruiz finally gets in a nice combo near the bell.

Round 4: Miller jabbing his way in this time. Right to the body and left to the head for Ruiz. Miller to the body, Ruiz returns fire to the head. Miller with a left to the head, but it looked like it was mostly blocked. This is a showcase for Ruiz’s hand speed so far. Miller flurries to the gut right before the bell. Better round for Miller, but I still say

10-9 Ruiz

Round 5: Miller with a left in a clinch. Ruiz with a flurry, Miller responds with a short right that looked more like an elbow. Miller finally throwing more. He’s landing to the body and a left to the head. Both men with short right hands. Miller with a low blow. Commentary team thinks it wasn’t one. Miller looking good here, landing with a lot more frequency.

10-9 Miller

Round 6: There’s a nice right by Ruiz. Miller responds with a short right of his own. Both men dig to the belly. Ruiz not moving as well as he did early. He absorbs a body shot, responds to the jaw. Slow-paced round here. Miller with a series of body shots and a right to the head as the bell rings. Might’ve been a bit late.

10-9 Miller

Round 7: Jabs by Miller, there’s a right. Another right. Ruiz looks glacial now. Miller walking Ruiz back to the ropes and popping him sporadically. Ruiz not firing back much now, and when he does, there’s less on it.

10-9 Miller

Round 8: Not much to write about this round. Miller just walking forward and Ruiz walking backwards and to his left. Miller has thrown nothing but jabs all round long. That said, Ruiz hasn’t thrown anything either. Ruiz could easily have stolen that round with the slightest bit of activity, but he didn’t.

10-9 Miller

10-9 Ruiz

Round 11: Ruiz back on his backfoot again as Miller still walking into him. Ruiz not landing much, but Miller throwing less. There’s a liver shot from the big man. Miller exits a clinch with a right, then repeats that process. Ruiz lands a right that doesn’t seem to faze Miller at all. Solid right hand, Miller ignores it, but it scores. Miller with what has become his signature flurry at the end of the round.

10-9 Ruiz

Round 12: Miller with a couple good rights, but Ruiz lands as well. They’re emptying their tanks here it looks like. Ref says “STOP STOP STOP GO GO GO”, which kinda sucks, but they fight through it. Miller to the body. One minute to go. Miller still surging forward, and punching this time. Left from Ruiz, right from Miller. Good finish.

10-9 Miller and I have it 114-114. Feels like Miller had the better fight, but we’ll see who wins what rounds.

Final results: Andy Ruiz and Jarrell Miller draw
