Professional Fighters League (PFL) returns this evening (July 1, 2022) with its usual assortment of Friday night action. The Welterweights and women’s Lightweights have the floor this evening, all leading to a main event between two-time tournament champion, Kayla Harrison, and 15-year veteran, Kaitlin Young.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) veteran, Rory MacDonald, squares off with Sadibou Sy in the co-main event, former PFL champion Ray Cooper III takes on Bellator alum Brett Cooper one fight prior, and another former tournament champion, Magomed Magomedkerimov, opens the main card opposite late replacement, Dilano Taylor.

PFL 6 ROUND-BY-ROUND COVERAGE

155 lbs.: Kayla Harrison vs. Kaitlin Young

Round one: Harrison looking to strike early. Powerful double-leg puts her on top in side control a minute in. Landing punches as Young tries to work her way up. Half guard two minutes in. Dropping right hands with a hook in. Full back mount and she just keeps punching until the ref steps in.

Final result: Harrison def. Young by TKO (punches)


170 lbs.: Rory MacDonald vs. Sadibou Sy

Round one: Early single-leg attempt from MacDonald. Tries to transition to the double, settles for putting him on the fence. One minute in. They separate. Sy fires a quick head kick, then gets clinched again. MacDonald falls to the mat to try and get a better angle, still nothing two minutes in. Sy reverses, gets reversed in turn. MacDonald knees him in the ghoulies with two minutes to go.

They restart at range in the center. Sy circles away from a combo, lands low kicks. MacDonald shoots once again, once again rebuffed. One minute to go. They separate. Straight right from Sy, jabs behind it. Solid body kick from MacDonald in return. Short rights against the fence. Sy pops him with a counter right before getting clinched. 10-9 Sy.

Round two: Both try front kicks to start. MacDonald puts him on the fence once again. One minute in. Continuing to press Sy against the fence. Two minutes in. More of the same. Sy tries to reverse with two minutes to go.

Sy shoves him away. Head kick attempt. Lead right from MacDonald in return. Jab and hook by Su, long uppercut just misses. MacDonald to the body. One minute to go. MacDonald looks for another single-leg. Back to grinding against the fence. 10-9 MacDonald.

Round three: MacDonald pressuring, lands a nice overhand right and shoots in once again. One minute in. They separate. Body kick attempt from Sy. Another clinch, Sy doing the pressing this time. Jockeying for position. Rear waist lock for MacDonald. Two minutes in. Knees to the body. Sy hits a trip into half guard with two minutes to go.

MacDonald works his way up, puts him on the fence, then knees Sy in the junk again. Still no point deduction. Body kick from Sy, who avoids a front kick. He tries to shoot, gets put on the fence, separates. Head and body kicks from Sy, then a quick jab as they tie up. One minute to go. MacDonald tries to throw on the exit. Low kick from Sy and a quick jab after missing a head kick. Knee to the body from MacDonald in return. Sy wraps things up with a pair of body kicks. Thus ends the most fan-unfriendly performance of MacDonald’s career. 10-9 Sy.

Final result: Sy def. MacDonald by unanimous decision


170 lbs.: Brett Cooper vs. Ray Cooper III

Round one: Cooper III comes out banging and starts absolutely teeing off on the fence. Cooper tries to throw back, but Cooper III folds him with knees and body shots before polishing him off.

Final result: Cooper III def. Cooper by TKO (knee and punches)


170 lbs.: Magomed Magomedkerimov vs. Dilano Taylor

Round one: Quick jab from Taylor. Magomedkerimov wades in with a combo, lands a left hook. One minute in. Both men sitting outside of striking range. Brief collision, no takedown ensues. Quick exchange in the center. Magomedkerimov tries a head kick, eats a low kick. Slow-paced first round. Body shot into the clinch, can’t land the right on the exit. Two minutes to go.

Flying switch kick attempt catches Taylor in the groin, but he elects to continue. Nice surprise takedown by Magomedkerimov. Standing over Taylor near the cage, settles down in guard. Solid standing punches from Magomedkerimov give Taylor the chance to scramble up, but he gets thrown right back down into guard. 10-9 Magomedkerimov.

Round two: Low kick lands for Magomedkerimov. High-low 1-2s from Taylor. Heavy counter right from Magomedkerimov answers a low kick a minute in. Long 1-2 falls short. Two minute sin. Back to the touch sparring. Taylor tries another naked low kick and Magomedkerimov lands the same counter right to huge effect. Taylor nearly huts the mat, but manages to find his feet again. Two minutes to go.

Another big right hand from Magomedkerimov. Flying knee misses, but another big right lands clean. Taylor’s out on his feet and the ref steps in for a standing TKO.

Final result: Magomedkerimov def. Taylor by TKO (punches)


155 lbs.: Larissa Pacheco vs Genah Fabian

Round one: Pacheco advances early. She trips Fabian up with an inside low kick, then rocks her with a hard combo that forces Fabian to shoot. Pacheco denies it, moves to a rear body lock, then takes her down into mount against the fence. Arm triangle’s there for her and she wraps it up. She can’t move to side control because of the cage and Fabian’s toughing it out. Caught in half guard, still squeezing. Back to mount and she lets it go in favor of blasting away with punches until the ref intervenes.

Final result: Pacheco def. Fabian by TKO (punches)


170 lbs.: Jarrah Al-Silawi vs. Magomed Umalatov

Round one: Tentative start. One minute in, no strikes thrown. Umalatov punches into the clinch against the fence. Separation. Low kicks from Al-Silawi. Two minutes in. Ref wants action, crowd’s getting mad. Half-assed low kick from Umalatov. Decent clinch knee. Al-Silawi comes back with a jab. Two minutes to go.

Umalatov looks for a 1-2-3. Al-Silawi catches one of his kicks, but Umalatov dinks him with a short back fist that short-circuits him. Umalatov chases him down and bombs him unconscious in a sudden end to a deathly boring fight.

Final result: Umalatov def. Al-Silawi by KO (punches)
