Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently announced the five round, lightweight championship headliner between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier for its upcoming UFC 242 pay-per-view (PPV) fight card, which takes place on Sat., Sept. 7, 2019 inside The Arena on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.
To help get mixed martial arts (MMA) fans hyped for the ESPN+ event, the promotion will stage a special pre-fight press conference today (Weds., June 12) at 10 a.m. ET inside Hotel Cafe Royal in Central London, where both fighters — along with promotion president Dana White — will discuss the upcoming title bout.
Nurmagomedov (27-0) captured the vacant crown back in early 2018, then submitted Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in what marked his first official title defense. “The Eagle’s” subsequent absence from the fight game led the promotion to create an interim title, which Poirier (25-5, 1 NC) promptly scooped up with his commanding performance against Max Holloway at UFC 236.
Check out today’s press conference video embedded above and be sure to stick around just as soon as the festivities wrap for the Khabib vs. Poirier staredown.
