Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) makes its return to the FOX Sports 1 airwaves this Saturday night (Nov. 10, 2018) with the UFC Fight Night 139 mixed martial arts (MMA) event inside Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado, which includes additional preliminary bouts airing on UFC Fight Pass. Headlining the network-televised fight card is the featherweight showdown pitting ex-division No. 1 contender Chan Sung Jung — affectionately known as the “Korean Zombie” — opposite dangerous 145-pound striker Yair “Pantera” Rodriguez. In the welterweight co-main event, 170-pound “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone tries to avenge his Jackson-Wink dissolution by trading leather with “Platinum” interloper Mike Perry. In addition, Raquel “Rocky” Pennington tries to punch her way back into the win column by turning away ex-featherweight champion Germaine “Iron Lady” de Randamie.

Round 2: Barber kicking at range. Head kick lands. Low kick, body kick. Cifers ties up, eats another pair of savage elbows. Barber takes her down, avoiding an omoplata in the process. Cifers going for a leg, denied a minute in. Big elbows from Barber. She stands over Cifers and lands hard right hands. Cifers looking for a leg, gets blasted with punches and elbows for her trouble. She’s a bloody mess. Ref finally steps in.

155 lbs.: Mike Trizano vs. Luis Pena

Round 1: Both men sending out kicks in the early going. One minute in. Trizano counter right and body kick. Right hand to the body, low kick. Pena slaps him across the face with a Brazilian kick, then hurls a left hand. Another good leg kick from Trizano. Two minutes in. They continue to pile up. Pena lands a body kick, easts a leg kick. Now Pena shoots and takes him to the fence. Two minutes in.

Pena separates, fires a flying knee, then re-enters the clinch. Trizano locks up an arm-in guillotine and jumps guard, but loses it with a minute to go. Trizano scrambles up and Pena grabs a kimura. 10-9 Trizano.

Round 2: Both men looking for long-range punches early. Another low kick from Trizano. Head kick attempt a minute in. 1-2 from Pena appears to fall just short. Trizano lands a right downstairs and stuffs a shot. Pena straight left, right hand comes back at him. Pena fires an elbow, eats a left hand, shoots. Holding onto a leg against the fence. Two minutes in. Pena hops onto his back and locks up the body triangle. Two minutes to go.

He pulls Trizano to the ground and goes back to working for the choke. He flattens Trizano out for a moment, can’t get the choke, and winds up swept into guard. One minute to go. Hard hammerfists from Trizano as Pena looks for an armbar. Pena transitions to an omoplata attempt before the bell. Close round. 10-9 Pena.

Round 3: Both men falling short with punches. Low kick from Trizano. Good right hand by Trizano, who nearly lands a counter uppercut. One minute in. Good right to the body. Pena shoots fro mtoo far out, easily denied. Body kick lands for him, glancing head kick from Trizano in return. Trizano denies another shot. Pena ties up on the fence. Trizano looks for a ninja choke two minutes in, but gets taken down into guard. Elbow from Pena, but he stands and gives Trizano room to stand. Pena lands a knee and tries a kimura, but loses his grip and falls to his back. Two minutes to go.

Trizano standing over him. Penza manages to sweep his way into top position, keeping Trizano on his butt against the cage. Trizano goes to his knees. One minute to go. Trizano separates. Pena tries some tired-looking lefts, eats hard right hands. Another leg kick from Trizano. Nasty 1-2 by Trizano and they slug it out. 10-9 Trizano.

115 lbs.: Amanda Cooper vs. Ashley Yoder

Round 1: Cooper orthodox, Yoder southpaw. Low kicks from Cooper. Cooper combo fall short. Another leg kick on the counter a minute in. Good exchange in the center. Another leg kick. Cooper counters a body kick with a four-punch combo. Counter left lands for Yoder. Two minutes in. Straight left from Yoder on the lead this time. Cooper goes low-high. 2-1-2 from Cooper. Cooper shoots and presses Yoder against the fence. She completes the takedown into guard with two minutes to go.

Yoder has butterfly guard. Cooper hits a knee-cut pass into side control. Yoder looking for an inverted triangle, doesn’t look deep. Cooper gets out with a minute to go. Yoder rolls to her knees and sweeps into top position. Yoder swings some ground-and-pound, ends the round punching. 10-9 Cooper.

Round 2: Yoder lands a straight left. Combo from Cooper when Yoder steps in. They trade lefts and Cooper lands yet another low kick. Yoder stings her with a straight left in return, then steps into the clinch and looks for knees. One minute in. Cooper changes levels against the fence. Throw attempt. Yoder hits a throw from double overhooks. Cooper regains guard. Two minutes in. Yoder drops shots form half guard, gets kicked off. Cooper shoots once again and gets double underhooks. Yoder fires some knees with two minutes to go.

Cooper going for a double-leg, gets her down. On top in guard. One minute to go. Cooper postures for some hard punches and avoids a sweep, taking north-south. Yoder locks up another inverted triangle before the bell. 10-9 Cooper.

Round 3: Cooper lands a good straight right and teep. 3-2 connects. Combination on the fence. Yoder lands a straight left after eating another low kick. 1-2 again. Knee on the inside. They trade power hands in the center. Cooper knocks her back with a right hand at the end of a three-piece. Cooper hits a blast double, but Yoder rolls through two minutes in and stands over her. Upkicks from Cooper. Two minutes to go.

Yoder struggling to get past Cooper’s legs. High guard for Cooper. Yoder steps around for a kneebar attempt. Looks like the knee isn’t in deep enough. Cooper winds up taking side control and goes for an armbar as Yoder looks to sweep. Yoder gets her arm free and looks for the back. She latches onto a face rank and puts in both hooks. Can’t get it. 10-9 Yoder.

145 lbs.: Chas Skelly vs. Bobby Moffett

Round 1: Moffett fires a right hand around the guard and a low kick. Another low kick and he catches one of Skelly’s. Skelly with an overhand right. One minute in. Moffett getting the better of the striking so far. Skelly shoots off a Moffett low kick and looks for the back against the cage. One hook in for Skelly. Two minutes in. He nearly manages to secure the choke under Moffett’s chin. Both hooks in now. Two minutes to go.

Moffett stands up, eating punches from the still-attached Skelly. More left hands from Skelly. One minute to go. Moffett trying to scrape him off against the fence. Skelly keeps popping him with his free hand. Moffett escapes before the bell and opens up with punches. 10-9 Skelly.

Round 2: Low kicks from Moffett. Moffett looking like the faster of the two on the feet. Decent combos so far this round. Now Skelly lands an uppercut, eating a cross in return. Moffett opens up and shoots once Skelly’s guard goes up, lifting him and taking him to the mat. They’re in an awkward position on the ground. Moffett looking to take side control. Two minutes in. Skelly sweeps into top position, but Moffett locks up a d’arce as he does. Skelly scrambles madly and then looks to be waiting it out, but the referee decides he’s unconscious and stops the fight. Skelly, clearly awake, immediately protests. Urgh.

Final result: Moffett def. Skelly by technical submission


155 lbs.: Davi Ramos vs. John Gunther

Round 1: Ramos hits a takedown inside of 10 seconds. Side control for Ramos, who takes the back in brilliant fashion when Gunther spins to his knees. Looking for the choke. It takes him another minute or so, but he eventually locks up the choke.

Final result: Ramos def. Gunther by submission (rear naked choke)


155 lbs.: Devonte Smith vs. Julian Erosa

Round 1: Smith lands a body kick and fires some jabs. Lead right from Smith and a low kick soon after. A 1-2 catches Erosa leaning and Smith clobbers him on the ground for the finish.

Final result: Smith def. Erosa by KO (punches)


125 lbs.: Joseph Morales vs. Eric Shelton

Round 1: Shelton lands an early jab and low kick. Morales tries a high kick. One minute in. Straight right from Shelton answered by a teep. Counter uppercut from Shelton, who avoids getting grabbed on the fence. Morales head kick just misses. Two minutes in. Morales fires a 1-2-3, bangs the body. Shelton coutners a body kick with a right hand. Two minutes to go.

Shelton shoots and puts Morales on his back. Morales briefly threatens a guillotine, gets to his feet. Shelton spins to the rear waist lock and looks for the back, He’s too low and abandons the position. One minute to go. Shelton shoots again and Morales clamps down on a guillotine. Morales cranking hard, but Shelton stays patient and pops his head free and sets up in guard. 10-9 Shelton.

Round 2: Shelton connects with a lead uppercut. Shelton catches a low kick for another takedown. Morales scrambles up a minute in. He tries a head kick. Body shot lands. 1-2 from Shelton. Morales moving forward, looking for combos. Two minutes in. Shelton shoots again, then throws Morales to the mat when Morales defends. Morales counters with a nasty-looking guillotine, but Shelton again pops free. Two minutes to go.

Morales scooching to the fence. Shelton keeping him from standing. One minute to go. Morales makes it back up and lands a left on the break. Body kick from Shelton after avoiding a high kick. Shelton shoots from too far out, nearly gives up mount, and has to fight off a triangle. 10-9 Morales.

Round 3: Another tentative start to the round. Morales lands to the body and looks for a knee on the break. Nice takedown into guard from Morales. Shelton manages to scramble up on the fence. He goes for his own takedown soon after and Morales pulls guard on a guillotine. Again he loses it. Morales looks for a kimura, tries to stand with it. Two minutes in. He makes his way to the fence and eats a knee on the way up. Straight right lands clean for Morales, but Shelton hits a lovely chain takedown. Two minutes to go.

Shelton staying heavy on top. Morales gets to his knees, eats a couple lefts. Shelton denies an attempt to stand. He goes for a similar back take as earlier, can’t get it. A mad scramble ensues as both hurl big strikes on the break. Shelton ends up on top. 10-9 Shelton.

125 lbs.: Mark De La Rosa vs. Joby Sanchez

Round 1: De La Rosa hurries across the cage to start. Jab from Sanchez. Counter left lands for De La Rosa. Nice hook from Sanchez snaps De La Rosa’s head back. Leg kick from De La Rosa countered by a 1-2 and he shoots in. One minute in. De La Rosa looking for a single-leg. Sanchez frames to escape. Two minutes in. Counter left from De La Rosa and he cracks Sanchez with an uppercut. Flurry from De La Rosa, Sanchez looks for a left inside. Body kick from Sanchez. Two minutes to go.

Low kick by De La Rosa, jab from Sanchez. De La Rosa targeting low leg kicks, lands a jab. One minute to go. Good jab from Sanchez. Quick exchange, Sanchez gets the better of it. Sanchez presses him against the fence. Close round. 10-9 De La Rosa.

Round 2: De La Rosa busy with his left. Sanchez goes to the body, avoids an uppercut. De La Rosa lands a low leg kick and tries to put him on the fence. Sanchez reverses. One minute in. De La Rosa lands a knee as Sanchez thwacks his body. Sanchez changes levels and De La Rosa tries to transition from the front headlock to the back. No dice. Sanchez grinding him against the cage, then separates. Two minutes in. Sanchez counters a low kick with a left hook. Right hook by De La Rosa and a right cross. Combination near the fence. More exchanging. Two minutes to go.

De La Rosa clinches against the cage. He looks for a single-leg again. Good defense from Sanchez, who avoids a back take. Sanchez body shots, knee from De La Rosa. One minute to go. Sanchez lands an uppercut on the break. De La Rosa fires a combination, hard right hands inside. Low leg kick lands and they trade left hooks. De La Rosa outlanding him late. 10-9 De La Rosa.

Round 3: They open the round trading near the center of the cage. Low kick from DE La Rosa, 1-2 from Sanchez lands clean in return. Clinch, De La Rosa tries a foot sweep. Good right cross from Sanchez a minute in. Left hook and jabs. De La Rosa lands a low kick. Counter jab. De La Rosa lands a sweeping right hand two minutes in. Sanchez lands a jab and straight right. They tie up and Sanchez puts him on the fence. HE separates. Short uppercut by De La Rosa. Sanchez cracks him on the counter with two minutes to go.
