Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will produce yet another top lightweight for the 155-pound title chase when long-time veteran and former title contender, Donald Cerrone, collides with former World Series of Fighting (WSOF) champion, Justin Gaethje, in UFC Fight Night 158’s main event on ESPN+, taking place |TONIGHT (Sat., Sept. 14, 2019) inside Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Also getting their hands dirty in “The Big Smoke” are light heavyweight sluggers Glover Teixeira and Nikita Krylov, a co-main event slugfest that could have serious implications within the division Top 10. Familiar faces like Todd Duffee, Uriah Hall, and Louis Smolka are also in action.

Round 1: Body kick lands for Krylov, then a leg kick. Teixeira catches a kick and muscles him to the mat. Half guard a minute in. Right hands for Teixeira. He spins to the back, both hooks in. Looking to flatten Krylov out two minutes in. Hard punches. Krylov escapes out the back door and lands directly in mount. Hard elbow. Two minutes to go.
Teixeira rolls to his knees and stands, looking for a takedown. Krylove suddenly locks up a rear naked choke and jumps onto his back. Excellent submission defense by Teixeira, who ends up back on top. Krylov stands, blasts him with a knee and elbow before separating. One minute to go. Teixeira tries a single-leg, denied, rocks Krylov with a 2-3. combination by Krylov. Hard overhand right form Teixeira, marching after Krylov. Combination in return. 10-9 Teixeira.
Round 2: Early kicks from Krylov, counter right by Teixeira. Krylov jab and body kick. Teixeira looks for a single-leg, both land as Krylov defends. Krylov low kicks and right cross. One minute in. Krylov continuing to pick at the lead leg. 2-3 forces Krylov back. He answers with a left. Counter right from Teixeira, shoots and eats a knee. Krylov with a nice combo on the fence. Two minutes in. Round 1: Duffee marches in and wings some hard rights. He shoots, puts Hughes on the fence. One minute in. Duffee fires a knee and tries to open up on the break. Hughes comes back with a good right hand. Jab and they slug it out on the fence. Two minutes in. They separate, hard left hook from Hughes. Duffee suddenly stings him with a straight right and Hughes shoots. Duffee stuffs it, takes his own shot. Hughes holding onto a front headlock, then separates. Two minutes to go.
Glancing head kick from Hughes, Duffee blitzes and hurts him badly with an overhand on the fence. Hughes makes it to his feet, throwing back. Duffee looking for uppercuts, Hughes with a hard right hook. Duffee presses him against the fence, grabs it and is warned. Duffee takes a finger in the eye as they separate. He says he’s seeing double and the ref calls it.

170 lbs.: Michel Pereira vs. Tristan Connelly
Round 1: Pereira throwing all sorts of nonsense early, trying to jump off the cage and clearing Connelly’s head with a flying knee attempt. Pereira easily denies a takedown. Connelly shoots back in a minute in, puts him on the fence. Elbow on the break. Pereira tries a somersault kick and flying knee. Body shot forces Connelly back, hard knee inside. Connelly tries to spin. Pereira tries another flying knee. Body shot and right cross two minutes in. Connelly still marching forward, tries a guillotine when Pereira takes him down into guard. Pereira tries a backflip guard pass, then tries a guillotine as Connelly takes him down. Loses it, stuck in guard with two minutes to go.
Right hand by Connelly from the top. He passes to half guard. Left hands land for him. He passes to mount with a minute to go. Pereira stands, backs away. Low kick form Connelly. Pereira body shots. Left hook by Connelly. Straight right lands and he jumps guard on a guillotine. Then another, loses it. 10-9 Connelly.
Round 2: Connelly sending out kicks. Pereira digs in a body shot, then another. Connelly shoots, stuffed, has to fight off a d’arce and does so. Body and leg kick from Pereira. One minute in. Connelly marching after him. Pereira lands a nice knee inside, eats a clean 1-2. Knee from Connelly in the clinch and he’s on the attack. Pereira with a knee to the body. They trade rights inside two minutes in. Hard rights inside by Connelly. Pereira shoots, denied. He lands a right hand off the back foot, then takes Connelly down into guard. Two minutes to go.
Connelly considers a triangle for a second. Short punches by Pereira. Connelly threatens a kimura. One minute to go. Pereira maintains position. 10-9 Pereira.
Round 3: Left hook and leg kick by Connelly. He shoots, sprawled on. Pereira puts him on the fence. Connelly wraps up a Marcelotine and Pereira scrambles for his life, somehow escaping to the feet. Connelly with some hard shots inside. One minute in. He’s walking Pereira down, sprawls on a shot and looks for the back. Side control. Pereira regains half guard. Two minutes in. Connelly staying patient on top. Two minutes to go.
Punches piling up for Connelly. He continues to pound away. One minute to go. Connelly giving all he’s got. 10-8 Connelly.

185 lbs.: Antonio Carlos Junior vs. Uriah Hall
Round 1: Trading jabs to start. Big counter right hurts Carlos, who wraps up a single-leg and takes him to the fence. He completes the body lock takedown and takes the back. Hall stands, Carlos playing backpack. His nose is in a bad way after that right hand. Two minutes in. Hall manages to slip out and separate. Back to trading jabs, Hall denies a single-leg, lands a left hook and a right cross. Another right hand. Two minutes to go.
Carlos still pursuing him. Stiff jabs from Hall. Carlos suddenly stings him with a pair of rights and changes levels. He completes it into half guard. Short elbow. 10-9 Hall.
Round 2: Hall still landing some hard jabs. Carlos tries to tie up, can’t, eats another. More good jabs, Carlos answers with a right hand. He shoots behind a jab and puts Hall on the fence. One minute in. Carlos still driving. Two minutes in. Hall circles out, drops the Brazilian with a 1-2. Carlos trying to threaten with subs as Hall tries to pound him out. Hall lets him up. Carlos shoots right back in. Two minutes to go.
Carlos fires an elbow, tries to change levels again. Carlos gets him down for a moment, keeps a rear body lock. Hall separates with under 20 to go. Carlos tries to spin. Hall wading after him. 10-9 Hall.
Round 3: More jabs, wheel kick attempt by Hall. Carlos marches into the clinch and lands a takedown directly into back mount. Full body triangle. One minute in. Hall with good hand fighting so far. Still looking for it. Two minutes to go.

205 lbs.: Misha Cirkunov vs. Jim Crute
Round 1: Cirkunov tries a head kick, eats a body kick and lands one of his own. Well-timed takedown by Cirkunov into half guard. On to side control one minute in. Crute regains half guard. Back to side control, looks for the crucifix. Got it for a moment, Crute bridges to get his arm free. Still stuck in side control. Cirkunov steps into mount. Crute spins into guard, fires knees as they stand. Cirkunov tries a head-and-arm throw, looks for the back. Crute powers through, lands punches and sets up in guard. Crute unloading hammerfists, but Cirkunov hits a deep half guard sweep with two minutes to go.
Cirkunov stands over him dropping punches, then latches onto a Peruvian necktie that draws the tap.

265 lbs.: Augusto Sakai vs. Marcin Tybura
Round 1: Tybura opens with kicks to the leg and body. Sakai plodding after him, blasts him with a right hand after eating a leg kick. Nasty punches from Sakai in the clinch and Tybura crumbles to the mat.
Final result: Sakai def. Tybura by KO (punches)
135 lbs.: Miles Johns vs. Cole Smith
Round 1: Smith tries an early shot. Johns defends, puts him on the fence. Smith first a knee when they start to separate and shoots back in. He transitions to the back and tries to put in his hooks. One minute in. Now in backpack mode. Looking for the choke. Two minutes in. Still looking. Two minutes to go.
Johns continuing to wait it out. Smith turns to face him, gets double underhooks. One minute to go. They separate and trade. 10-9 Smith.
Round 2: Smith continuing to press forward, gets dumped into guard by a reactive double leg. Smith with a body triangle off of his back a minute in. Now he scoots to the fence, stands, and immediately takes Johns’ back with a full body triangle. Looking for the choke. Two minutes to go.
Still looking for the RNC. Now Johns turns into guard. Not much GnP from the top until the bell. 10-9 Smith.
Round 3: Johns swinging hard in the early going, lands a couple overhands. Smith still marching after him, eats a hard jab. Another. Smith shoots against the fence. One minute in. Johns tries to separate with an underhook, pleads his case to the ref. Browne elbows. Two minutes in. Johns complaining to the referee about Smith’s inactivity. Now he separates. BIG overhand stings Smith. Two minutes to go.
Smith looking for counter knees. Johns hurling bombs, lands a right hook. Jab drops an off-balance Smith, Johns doesn’t follow. Smith shoots, stuffed. Knee to the body. Round 1: Katona lands a nice overhand right, eats a leg kick. Counter 1-2 knocks Katona off-balance and he shoots in response. Looking for a single-leg a minute in. Azure defending against the fence. Two minutes in. Azure looks for a head kick as they separate. Katona lands a shifting hook, eats a right cross and a leg kick with two minutes to go.
2-3 from Katona. He shoots, Azure defends on the fence. One minute to go. Katona locks his hands, can’t get him all the way down. Azure tries a knee as he defends. 10-9 Katona.
Round 2: Azure with an early knockdown, stalking Katona and swinging big. Katona jabs the body. One minute in. Azure with a right downstairs. Cuffing right after stuffing a takedown. Katona still looking for left hooks. Azure body shot and 1-2. Two minutes in. They trade right hands inside. Katona hits a double-leg in the center, Azure scoots to the fence and stands. Still defending with two minutes to go.
Katona drags him down once again. Azure avoids a back take as he stands. Knees from Azure against the fence. One minute to go. Katona still driving in. He looks for a single-leg. They trade on the fence. 10-9 Azure.
Round 3: Azure on the advance, wings an overhand that falls short. Katona lands a combination inside. Azure digs a right to the body and a glancing overhand upstairs. Katona tries a shifting hook a minute in. Azure body shots. Stiff jab connects. Katona looks for a single-leg, Azure limp-legs out. Katona up-jab. Overhand right. Two minutes in. 145 lbs.: Jordan Griffin vs. Chas Skelly
Round 1: Griffin with a nice straight left and uppercut, only for Skelly to transition to his back. Then ESPN+ dies for several minutes. When it comes back, a gassed Skelly is throwing haymakers with him on the feet. Apparently Skelly spent that round attached to Griffin’s back so 10-9 Skelly.
Round 2: More technical issues. It comes back with Griffin on top of Skelly, moving to mount and dropping elbows. Two minutes in. Now on the back. He wraps up the RNC, but Skelly dramatically slams his way out and takes the back in return. Full body triangle. Two minutes to go.
Skelly still attached, still looking for the choke. One minute to go. Skelly trying to soften him up. 10-9 Skelly.
Round 3: Both men looking tired. Skelly with a combination. Griffin lands a better one, looks for a head kick. Skelly shoots and Griffin pulls guard on a guillotine. One minute in. Griffin trying to transition to the back, then looks for an armbar. No dice and Skelly retakes the back. Griffin tries to slam his way out as well, but Skelly remains attached with a body triangle two minutes in. Next minute is just back control from Skelly. Two minutes to go.
Skelly still trying to get the choke. Corner calling for Skelly to “get that bonus.” One minute to go. Bot hmen punching at each other from an odd spot. Skelly wraps up a palm-to-palm grip, loses it. Griffin manages to turn into guard. He goes for a last-ditch guillotine, nothing doing. 10-9 Skelly.
Final result: Skelly def. Griffin by unanimous decision
135 lbs.: Ryan MacDonald vs. Louis Smolka
Round 1: Smolka winging some heavy punches early. Low kick from MacDonald. Smolka lands to the body and they trade. 1-2 from Smolka. One minute in. Body shots, 1-1-2. MacDonald digs a left downstairs and eats a body kick. Smolka 1-2 to the body. More body shots from Smolka. He puts MacDonald on the fence for a moment. Counter left by MacDonald. They trade in the center; Smolka outlanding him by a fair margin so far. Brief clinch. Combination by MacDonald, eats a right hand. Smolka body shot, MacDonald hook, Smolka knee. Smolka continues to outwork him and punish the body. Two minutes to go.
More body shots. MacDonald with a body kick. Spinning back kick downstairs. MacDonald body kick and Smolka clinches. Smolka body shots on the break. One minute in. They trade body blows. Jabs from MacDonald, exchange in the center. Left hook appears to badly hurt MacDonald and Smolka looks to pour it on. Overhand right drops the wobbly “Main Event” and in comes the ref.

155 lbs.: Austin Hubbard vs. Kyle Prepolec
Round 1: Trading kicks to start. Prepolec suddenly stuns him with a straight left, stays patient. One minute in. Both men staying at range, Prepolec with a nice body shot to head kick. They trade, right hand lands for Hubbard in the center. Prepolec right hook. Hubbard to the body. Two minutes in. Prepolec lands a check hook, misses on a head kick. Low-high hooks as they trade. Hubbard lands a body kick after taking another hook. Prepolec leg kicks. Two minutes to go.
Knee and counter right from Prepolec. Exchanging kicks in the center. Hubbard tries a head kick and eats a right hook. Hubbard body kick. One minute to go. Prepolec landing some solid leg kicks. Hubbard body kick. Both land to the body, Prepolec tries to spin before clipping Hubbard with a hook at the bell. 10-9 Prepolec.
Round 2: Both look for head kicks. Leg kicks by Hubbard, head kick from Prepolec in return. They trade body blows. Prepolec body kick. They exchange off a caught Hubbard kick. Hubbard shoots, eats a Browne elbow, transitions to a body lock takedown. Prepolec trying to stand against the fence. He makes it and they return to the center two minutes in. Both wing some punches, neither lands clean. 2-1 from Hubbard, straight left by Prepolec. Hubbard lands a counter and a leg kick.
