Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) recently put the finishing touches (emphasis on recently) on the UFC Vegas 33 fight card, which takes place TONIGHT (Sat., July 31, 2021) from inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, streaming LIVE on both ESPN and ESPN+. Main event duties fall to middleweight contenders Uriah Hall and Sean Strickland, who collide for a spot in the 185-pound title chase.

Round 2: Simultaneous jabs to start. 3-2 from Hall. Right hand downstairs, jab exchange. Strickland sending out combos, backs Hall to the fence and shoots. One minute in. Strickland gets a bit of space, continues to throw. Ties up again. Two minutes in. They separate. Hall pushing forward now, lands a long right cross. Strickland tries a combo. Two minutes to go.
Stiff jabs from both men. Counter knee from Strickland. Hall still on the front foot. One minute to go. Low kick from Hall, Strickland’s answer catches him in the cup. Good leg kick from Hall when they resume. Stiff jab. Strickland still sending out his own jab but not having as much success on the back foot. Low kick lands for him. Hall tries a wheel kick. Round 3: Hall continuing to press forward. Jabs and a low kick. Jab to the body. 1-1-2 attempt. Right cross from Strickland. One minute in. Trading jabs. Strickland lands a few in sequence. Hall jabs the body. Strickland lands a 1-2 and Hall appears to hurt himself, succumbing to a takedown. Strickland tries to pound him out, but Hall works his way to his feet. Strickland looking for the back. He drags Hall back down with two minutes to go.
Strickland on top in half guard. Briefly considers a kimura, then an arm triangle. One minute to go. Strickland postures up for some elbows, then takes the back. 10-9 Strickland.
Round 4: Hall’s body language isn’t great but he’s still advancing. Good low kick as he eats a left hook. One minute in. Jabs from Strickland. Hall to the body. More Strickland jabs. Strickland right hand, Hall left two minutes in. Southpaw left from Hall. Really struggling with the Strickland jab this round. Two minutes to go.
Hall bangs the body. Good 1-2 from Strickland behind the ear and Hall looks wobbled. Strickland opens up on the fence and then takes him down, hunting the back. Knees landing. They separate. Body kick by Strickland. Hall slings some right hands in the final seconds. 10-9 Strickland.
Round 5: Hall marching forward, eating jabs. Low kick and straight left land for him. Strickland cracks him with a three-piece and they exchange in the pocket. Strickland forces him back with punches and ties up on the fence a minute in. Great exchanges in the center. Hard backfist by Strickland, then a right down the pipe. Two minutes in. Continuing to trade inside. Strickland forces him back to the fence . Hall manages to shove him away and gets cracked with punches before Strickland re-enters with two minutes to go.
Strickland landing in the clinch. One minute to go. Hall shoves him away. Trading heavy leather. Counter right from Hall but Strickland manages to muscle him to the fence again. Spinning elbow from Strickland, double-leg attempt, heavy shots in the pocket. 10-9 Strickland.
Final result: Strickland def. Hall by unanimous decision
115 lbs.: Cheyanne Buys vs. Gloria de Paula
Round 1: Early exchanges. Buys wraps her up and takes her down into guard, avoiding a potential back take in the process. Buys gives her space to stand, then obliterates her with a head kick as she does so. de Paula somehow survives despite Buys trying to walk off, but Buys jumps on her with a vicious series of punches for the finish.
Final result: Buys def. de Paula by TKO (head kick and punches)
170 lbs.: Jared Gooden vs. Niklas Stolze
Round 1: Gooden on the attack right away. Low kick for Stolze. Big left hook stings the German and Gooden follows up with a successful double-leg. Stolze scoots to the fence and separates, landing a 1-2. Low kick exchange, counter hook by Gooden. They trade and a monstrous 3-2 knocks Stolze into next week. A couple more perfunctory shots send the ref into action.
Final Result: Gooden def. Stolze by TKO (punches)
145 lbs.: Collin Anglin vs. Melsik Baghdasaryan
Round 1: Heavy kicks from Baghdasaryan to start. Spinning back kick attempt. Anglin throwing with him. Moving around in the clinch. Knee from Anglin. One minute in. Knees again. Baghdasaryan sends out some left hands. Head kick attempt. Overhand lefts connect. Another brief clinch. Body kick from Baghdasaryan. Two minutes in. Hard body shot to head kick. Anglin clinches up, looks for knees. Another body kick from Baghdasaryan, who gets taken down in center cage. He manages to stand with two minutes to go.
They separate. Front kicks to the body from Anglin. Heavy left hands and a knee by Baghdasaryan against the fence. They trade elbows. One minute to go. Huge straight left freezes Anglin and Baghdasaryan drops standing hammerfists on him against the fence. Spinning elbow attempt on the break. Good right hands from Anglin in the waning seconds. 10-9 Baghdasaryan.
Round 2: Body kick from Anglin. Baghdasaryan warned to mind his fingers. One minute in. Baghdasaryan lands a body kick, eats a knee a minute in. 1-2 from Baghdasaryan. More left hands upstairs, body shot. Huge head kick and down goes Anglin, who absorbs one more hammerfist before the ref intervenes. One of the loudest strikes I’ve heard in a while.
Final result: Baghdasaryan def. Anglin by TKO (head kick and punch)
170 lbs.: Bryan Barberena vs. Jason Witt
Round 1: Witt orthodox, Barberena southpaw. Slow start to the round. Witt tries a head kick. One minute in. Straight left lands for Barberena. Right hook not long after. Witt with a right downstairs. Good body kick. He shoots, completes the trip against the fence and sets up in half guard. Short punches two minutes in. Good elbow, staying heavy on top. Hunting the back with two minutes to go.
Barberena trying to stand, manages to do so and separate. Right hand lands for him on the break. Barberena advancing, hard exchange. One minute to go. Stutter-step left from Barberena. Well-timed shot by Witt into half guard. 10-9 Witt.
Round 2: Early exchange near the fence. Cuffing shots land for Barberena. 2-1. One minute in. Counter left answers a kick attempt from Witt. Witt shoots, denied. Overhand right connects. Hard right hand from Witt drops Barberena, who comes back with punches. Reactive shot by Witt puts him on top in guard two minutes in. Half guard now. Barberena gets an underhook and stands. Two minutes to go.
Another right hand drops Barberena and Witt jumps on a guillotine. Barberena manages to pops his head free and they trade when they return to the feet. Barberena still looks staggered. One minute to go. Counter right lands for him. Counter left, shrugs off a head kick in return. Witt shoots, trips him down into half guard. 10-9 Witt.
Round 3: They trade right hands to start the round. Witt tries a head kick. One minute in. They trade in the center. Witt shoots, denied, eats some big punches from Barberena. A right hook hurts Witt and Barberena storms after him. Right hand lands for Witt after Barberena backs off. Another right hand by Barberena. Witt takes him down, then hits another takedown into side control when Barberena looks for a guillotine. Half guard now with two minutes to go.
Barberena manages to slip out and stand, throwing heat. He shrugs off a takedown and blasts Witt while Witt’s on his knees. Trading bombs. Barbarena shrugs off a spinning back fist and drops him in return, only to get taken down. One minute to go. Barberena uses a kimura to sweep his way out. Big left hand by Barberena knocks Witt’s mouthpiece out and Barberena tries to capitalize. He slips throwing a knee Witt ends the round sprawling on him. 10-9 Barberena.
Final result: Witt def. Barberena by majority decision
155 lbs.: Rafa Garcia vs. Chris Gruetzemacher
Round 1: Trading punches to start. Low kicks from Garcia. Big left hook, then another to punish a naked low kick. Gruetzemacher wobbles back and Garcia drags him to the mat. Gruetzemacher manages to survive, but Garcia switches back to punches. Left hook after left hook. Cross counter. Another left hook. Low kick. Gruetzemacher still pressing forward, lands a front kick downstairs. Two minutes in. Continuing to trade. Nice double-leg from Garcia into half guard. Gruetzemacher quickly works his way up and digs in a body shot. More body shots from Gruetzemacher, big one from Garcia in return and he takes a shot to the cup. Right back to trading. Big right cross from Gruetzemacher. Two minutes to go.
Garcia slams home right hands. Knees from Gruetzemacher in the clinch. Garcia changes levels, eats an elbow. Gruetzemacher defends and attacks the body once again. He stuffs a takedown, lands a knee to the body, has to fight off a single-leg. One minute to go. Gruetzemacher hits the switch and lands a knee to the body. Trading elbows inside. Good body shots from Gruetzemacher, who slips throwing a knee and eats one on the way up. 10-9 Gruetzemacher.
Round 2: Gruetzemacher right back on the advance. Low kick from Garcia. Gruetzemacher tries a combo. Knees to the body. Garcia shoots and trips him down into side control a minute in. Gruetzemacher gets to the fence and stands, only to get caught in a guillotine. He pops his head free and bangs the body. Garcia shoots behind a right hand two minutes in. Keeping Gruetzemacher on the fence. Two minutes to go.
Gruetzemacher shoves him away and cracks him with a right hook. More suffocating pressure. Walking through the return fire from Garcia, stuffs a shot. One minute to go. Gruetzemacher just battering him at point blank. Garcia spins to a rear waist lock. Trading in the center. Gruetzemacher rips the body. Good elbow. Garcia with a takedown at the bell. 10-9 Gruetzemacher.
Round 3: Gruetzemacher continuing to stomp forward and bang away. Garcia looking pretty spent, but manages to hit aa takedown into side control. One minute in. Not much from the top by Garcia. Ref wants him to get busier. Two minutes in. Gruetzemacher just holding him close. There’s some right hands from Garcia. Gruetzemacher scoots to the fence and works his way back to his feet. Brutal uppercut by Gruetzemacher. Two minutes to go.
Gruetzemacher continuing to piece him up. Now Garcia swinging back, absorbs another uppercut and comes back with a left hook. Nice double-leg by Garcia into butterfly guard. Short punches with a minute to go. Gruetzemacher gets his back against the fence. Good knee to the body by Garcia. Gruetzemacher makes it to his feet, fights off a last-second takedown. 10-9 Gruetzemacher but 1 and 3 could have been Garcia’s.

145 lbs.: Danny Chavez vs. Kai Kamaka
Round 1: Chavez tries an early head kick. They trade low kicks. Tentative start a minute in. Chavez tries a long right hand. He shoots, lands it, moves to the rear waist lock. Kamaka spins free and separates. Low kick connects two minutes in. Chavez body shot. They trade leg kicks. Two minutes to go.
More Kamaka low kicks. Chavez tries a body shot, eats another leg kick. More low kicks. One minute to go. Chavez tries a head kick. He knocks Kamaka off-balance, doesn’t capitalize. Low kick exchange, punching exchange right after. 10-9 Kamaka on low kicks.
Round 2: Both men still pretty tentative. Left hand and low kick from Kamaka. One minute in. Chavez shoots, denied, eats a body kick. Kamaka leg kick behind it. Another heavy calf kick. Jab to the body, calf kick. Two minutes in. Another calf kick. Chavez 1-2 falls short. As they trade, Chavez takes what looks like a horrific finger in the eye. Impressively, he manages to recover and continue. He comes out swinging like crazy, prompting Kamaka to grab a body lock. Chavez takes a knee to the nuts on the break and down he goes again. Herb Dean takes a point. Two minutes to go.
They get right to slugging when they resume. Chavez tries a wheel kick. One minute to go. Kamaka continuing to target the lead calf. Knee attempt. Chavez circling out of range. 9-9 with the point deduction.
Round 3: Chavez sending out punches, eats punches and low kicks before shooting. Kamaka defends and puts him on the fence. Good Browne elbows by Chavez a minute in. Continuing to defend the takedown. Knees to the body from Kamaka. Two minutes in. Still stuck against the fence. Ref calls for more action. Kimura attempt from Chavez with two minutes to go.
Good elbows by Chavez. Kamaka with some dirty boxing. They separate with 80 seconds left. Left hook lands for Chavez. He shoots, denied, continues to drive. Kamaka sprawls and separates. Kamaka low kick, Chavez left hook. Body kick lands for Kamaka and Chavez flurries. 10-9 Kamaka? No clue, that one was close.
Final result: Majority draw
115 lbs.: Jinh Yu Frey vs. Ashley Yoder
Round 1: Double jab from Frey, leg kick. Yoder blitzes and lands knees against the fence. Frey frames and cracks her with left hands before separating. 1-2 downstairs met by a Yoder straight left. One minute in. They trade leg kicks. Frey straight left. She catches a low kick and kicks her leg before separating, cracking Yoder with a left hand when she tries to charge. Two minutes in. 1-2. Yoder low kick. She ties up after taking a leg kick and hauls Frey to the fence.
Frey separates and lands a straight left. Body shots. Jab downstairs, low kick attempt. Yoder tries a 1-2. One minute to go. Potshotting each other as Frey tries to step in. Teep from Yoder, body shot from Frey. Frey low kick, Yoder head kick attempt. 3-2 from Frey, eats a low kick and eats a 1-2. Good exchange. 10-9 Frey but it could go either way.
Round 2: Trading kicks early. Both try 1-2s. Combo from Frey, who stuffs a shot and wobbles Yoder with a left hand on the exit. She stuffs another takedown and cracks Yoder with a pair of lefts as “Spider Monkey” fires back. One minute in. Low-high 3-2 staggers Yoder, who shoots again and gets blasted by another left hand. Another level change denied. Frey low kick. Two minutes in. They trade left hands. Low kicks from Frey, left hands upstairs. Two minutes to go.
1-2 lands for Yoder. Frey comes back with a body shot. More lefts from Frey, eats a backfist. Body shot met by a Yoder body kick. Each woman staggers the other with left hands with a minute to go and now Yoder’s on the attack, landing left hands over and over. 3-2 from Frey, leg kick. Frey sporting some damage around the right eye. 10-9 Frey.
Round 3: Yoder tries to shoot, unsuccessful. Another shot a minute in, eats two left hands in return. Lead left by Frey. Yoder low kick. Frey falls short with a 1-2. Two minutes in. Yoder lands a left hand while circling. Low kick from Frey. Elbow on the break. She stuffs another takedown and lands a left hand. Two minutes to go.
Combo up top from Frey. Low kick connects. Yoder lands a straight left inside. Frey catches a body kick, doesn’t use it. Straight left connects with a minute to go. Huge 3-2 from Frey knocks Yoder back. Yoder comes right back and looks to answer with her own straight lefts. Yoder body kick, Frey low kick. Frey digs a body shot and cracks Yoder with a two-piece, then one last leg kick. 10-9 Frey.
Final result: Frey def. Yoder by unanimous decision
125 lbs.: Zarrukh Adashev vs. Ryan Benoit
Round 1: Low kick and combo from Adashev to start. Another heavy leg kick, then looks to go high behind it. Benoit swats him with a pair of left hooks inside. Heavy right hook from Adashev in return, then a cross behind a knee a minute in. Another crushing calf kick makes Benoit go southpaw. Benoit counters the next one. Jab exchange. Benoit trying to press forward, takes a body kick two minutes in. Inside low kick to body kick for Adashev, who lands as they trade. Wheel kick falls short. Adashev left hook, Benoit right hand. Another right from Benoit near the fence. Adashev responds with a calf kick that has Benoit struggling to walk. Two minutes to go.
Good left hook from Benoit, who eats another calf kick. Adashev tries his own takedown attempt, then lands a low blow that Benoit shakes off. One minute to go. Benoit trying to stagger after him and he drops Adashev with a right hand against the fence. Adashev hits a takedown in return and has to fight off a guillotine. Now looking for his own against the fence. He jumps guard, runs out of time. Even with the knockdown, 10-9 Adashev.
Round 2: Adashev tries a combination. Benoit as well. Lead left connects for him. Body kick and leg kick for Adashev. One minute in. Adashev low kick, Benoit counter right. Nice knee by Adashev. Superman punch two minutes in. Big counter 2-3. Counter three-piece. Calf kick. Benoit stings him with a right hook, gets sent to his knees for a moment by another calf kick. Two minutes to go.
Adashev shoots, denied. Jab to body kick. Low kick. Benoit blitzes with a good right hook and gets clinched. One minute to go. Benoit tries to blitz and his leg gives out on him. Good right hand from Adashev before Benoit stands. 10-9 Adashev.
Round 3: Benoit continuing to press forward, walks into a right hook and shoots. Denied. Another clean counter right by Adashev. One minute in. Adashev popping him with right hands. Good movement this round. Check right hook. Two minutes in. Benoit still stalking, ties up on the fence. Adashev with a body kick after they separate. Looping left from Benoit, heavy counter volley comes back at him. Two minutes to go.
Adashev circling along the fence, picking Benoit off. Good calf kick, gets wobbled a bit by a right hand. Heavy counter right from Adashev. Double jab, then a Benoit right hook in response. Back to the clinch. Benoit changes levels with a minute to go. They separate. Right hook by Adashev. Stiff jab. Benoit trying to wave him on, gets swatted by another counter right. Both swing at the bell. 10-9 Adashev.
Final result:
170 lbs.: Orion Cosce vs. Phillip Rowe
Round 1: Cosce hauls Rowe to the fence in the opening seconds. He grabs teh body lock and takes him down into side control. Rowe regains his guard a minute in. Shoulder pressure from Cosce. Two minutes in. Rowe trying to use the fence to stand. Cosce lets him up, slings a pair of right hands, then re-enters. He drags Rowe down to his seat with two minutes to go.
Rowe works his way to his feet, Cosce still attached. Elbow lands for Cosce. Rowe jumps guard with a minute to go and eats punches for his trouble before standing and landing a clinch knee. They separate and Rowe lands a couple more punches before the bell. 10-9 Cosce.
Round 2: Rowe hops in and puts Cosce on the fence, only to get reversed right away. One minute. Rowe separates and uncorks a lengthy combo to the body and head, then accidentally lands a low blow. Cosce takes a moment to recover. Swinging big in the center and Rowe really wobbles him with a right cross. Cosce swinging back, blasts him with a left and right hook. He shoots, denied. Two minutes in. Cosce marching after him, still unsteady. Clean right hand and knee from Rowe. Cosce continuing to throw back as Rowe cracks him. Nasty body shots. Big punches by Cosce now and he puts Rowe on the fence. Two minutes to go.
Short right hands from Cosce. Knees to the thigh. Rowe manages to separate and they go back to swinging. One minute to go. Huge clinch knees from Rowe. Right hook wobbles Cosce and a cross finally puts him down.
Final result: Rowe def. Cosce by TKO (knees and punches)
