Titan Fighting Championship is about to crown a featherweight champion.
Headlined by a 170-pound title fight between Ben Saunders and Matt Riddle, Titan FC 29 will define the first featherweight to feature an upcoming 145-pound title bout.
Titan FC president and CEO Jeff Aronson informed MMAFighting.com on Monday that Kurt Holobaugh will fight Lloyd Woodard on Aug. 22 in Fayetteville, N.C., in a title elimination bout.
Holobaugh (12-2) won three straight since leaving the UFC in April of 2013, while Woodard (13-4) enters the bout coming off a second-round TKO win, his first victory after a 2-3 run in Bellator.
“The winner (of Holobaugh vs. Woodard) is going to fight the winner of the ‘Toninho Furia’s’ fight for the Titan featherweight title,” Aronson told MMAFighting.com.
Brazilian Top Team prospect Gleristone Santos, also known as ‘Toninho Furia’, makes his return to the cage at Titan FC 30 in Austin, Texas, on Sept. 26. In his promotional debut in May, Santos stopped Alvin Robinson via TKO.
“We’re negotiating now,” Aronson said of Santos’ next opponent, “but trust me, it’s a big fight.”
According to Aronson, UFC veterans Pedro Nobre and Iliarde Santos will also compete at the Titan FC 30 card, but have no opponents yet. In the main event, Vinny Magalhaes takes on fellow former UFC fighter Jason Brilz for the vacant light heavyweight title.
