The YouTuber said he was taking the threats from Mayweather “seriously”.
Things got wild at the Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul media event earlier this month. After a tired on-stage performance, with both men slinging expected insults ahead of their ‘exhibition’ bout planned for June 6, Jake Paul swooped in to steal the show.
The younger Paul brother got in Mayweather’s face at the end of the event and then swiped the baseball cap off of Mayweather’s head. As the 3-0 pro boxer chirped ‘gotcha hat’ a melee ensued.
After Paul and Mayweather were separated an irate Mayweather screamed that he was going to kill Paul.
Paul celebrated his troll job by getting a tattoo of his new ‘gotcha hat’ catchphrase.
Logan Paul spoke to TMZ recently and confirmed that he and his brother were taking those threats seriously.
“Dawg, when you have a guy with the resources and the wealth that Floyd Mayweather has and the connection and the network and he’s saying shit, ‘I’mma kill that motherfucker’ — kill?! Death?! You’re gonna kill my brother over a fucking hat?! Yo, we take that shit seriously man!”
Paul added that taking it seriously means adding a 24/7 security detail to watch the brothers’ backs “everywhere at all times.”
However, Paul added that his brother won’t be filing any kind of police report after this clear (and documented) utterance of a death threat, stating: “[That’s] bitch shit bro.”
Before they became celebrity boxers the Paul brothers built a YouTube/social media content creation empire that has netted them somewhere in the region of $50 million.
Their first foray into boxing was in 2018 when Logan took on KSI, a rival from YouTube. That was an amateur ‘white collar’ boxing event, which resulted in a majority draw.
Those two rematched in 2019, live on DAZN, under pro rules. KSI won that bout via split decision. Jake made his debut on that card beating Ali Eson Gib (a friend of KSI) by TKO.
In November 2020 Paul brutally KO’d former NBA player Nate Robinson on the undercard of Triller’s Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. event. In April Paul took his record to 3-0 with a TKO win over former UFC fighter Ben Askren.
