Logan Paul, who was scheduled to box Floyd Mayweather, spoke about a potential bout with his brother Jake Paul.
Like it or not the Paul brothers are here to stay. So long as they keep drawing pay-per-view buys there will be no shortage of incursions from either Logan or Jake into the world of combat sports.
Little brother Jake is slated to take on former MMA champ Ben Askren on April 17. Logan was set to box Floyd Mayweather Jr. in an exhibition, though that bout has been postponed and possibly cancelled.
Recently Logan spoke with DAZN about his fighting future. It seems as though he has an idea for a spectacle that he thinks will be a ratings and box office hit.
“I’m a showman, so is Jake, and we had a little rivalry on YouTube that has never been matched and I don’t believe it ever will,” said Paul. “Our diss tracks against each other have like 300 million views, it was like we were the two brothers that despised each other online. And I think we can probably make a similar wave if Jake and I ever fought each other.
“I’d go ahead and say Logan Paul versus Jake Paul would be one of the greatest, and biggest and highest grossing pay-per-view combat sports events of all time.”
Jake seems to be also of the opinion that he and his brother will at some point trade blows. He once told the Schmo that he thinks they’ll fight one day, before bashing Logan’s chances against Mayweather (ht MMA Mania).
“I mean, at this point, he’s talking s**t to the paparazzi! But how is this guy so confident when he hasn’t won a single f**king fight? I don’t get it! Logan would get knocked out, though … he can’t really box.”
Currently sitting atop the list of best selling combat sports PPVs of all time is Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao from 2015. That event pulled in an estimated 4.6 million buys (per Insider).
Second on the all-time list is Conor McGregor’s foray into boxing to face Mayweather in 2017. That event drew 4.3 million buys. Tied in third place is Oscar de la Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather (2007) and UFC 229: Khabib vs. McGregor (2018). Those events had 2.5 million buys.
Logan Paul’s first boxing bout, versus fellow YouTuber KSI, occurred in 2018 and did a reported 1.3 million pay-per-view buys. An additional 1.2 million people watched the fight via illegal streams on Twitch (per Polygon). The official YouTube video of that fight has over 115 million views.
1.3 million ppv buys ties UFC 205: McGregor vs. Alvarez (2016) and Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin (2017) for 21st on the light of highest grossing pay-per-views.
Jake Paul’s last fight, versus former NBA player Nate Robinson, was part of the Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr. event on Triller. That event reportedly sold over 1 million pay-per-view buys.
