Lorenz Larkin will try to get on a roll in his new division in June.
Larkin, who moved down from middleweight to welterweight in his last fight, takes on Santiago Ponzinibbio at the Ultimate Fighter Brazil 4 Finale on June 27 in Sao Paulo, MMAFighting.com confirmed with the UFC on Saturday. Combate was the first to report the bout.
Larkin initially tweeted that the bout would be at UFC 190 in Rio de Janeiro on Aug. 1, but his manager Audie Attar told MMAFighting.com it would be at the TUF Brazil 4 Finale.
Larkin (15-4, 1 NC) starched John Howard in his 170-pound debut in just 2:17 at UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver on Jan. 18 in Boston. The Riverside, Calif., native competed in Strikeforce at light heavyweight and has spent most of his UFC career at middleweight up until now. Larkin, 28, lost three in a row at 185 before knocking out Howard. He has a chance to make a lot of noise fighting at his more natural weight.
Ponzinibbio (20-2) has won two of his three fights in the UFC with the lone loss coming against ranked welterweight Ryan LaFlare. The Argentina native defeated Sean Strickland by unanimous decision in his last fight in February. He also owns a knockout win over Wendell Oliveira. Ponzinibbio, 28, is a TUF Brazil 2 alum.
The TUF Brazil 4 Finale does not yet have an official main event. A welterweight bout between Erick Silva and Rick Story is likely for the card and could headline.
