Coming off three stoppage victories in three different weight classes, Lucas Martins is scheduled to return to the Octagon in October.
UFC officially announced on Tuesday that “Mineiro” meets Darren Elkins in a featherweight bout at UFC 179 on Oct. 25. The pay-per-view card takes place at the Maracanazinho gymnasium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Martins (15-1) has been impressive in his last appearances inside the Octagon. Unbeaten since his short-notice UFC debut against Edson Barboza, the Chute Boxe fighter finished Jeremy Larsen (lightweight), Ramiro Hernandez (bantamweight) and Alex White (featherweight).
With a 6-2 record under the UFC banner since cutting down to 145 pounds, Elkins (17-4) looks to get back on track following a unanimous decision loss against Jeremy Stephens. “The Damage” is 1-1 since Chad Mendes snapped his five-fight win streak in April 20, 2013.
UFC 179 is headlined by a 145-pound title fight featuring featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo and No. 1 contender Chad Mendes. Phil Davis battles Glover Teixeira in the co-main event.
