Luiz Cane wants to return to the UFC, and he plans to beat anyone steps in front of him until he gets a call from Joe Silva.
Released from the promotion after back-to-back losses to Chris Camozzi and Stanislav Nedkov, and a 4-5 record inside the Octagon, “Banha” returned to action at Standout Fighting Tournament’s first edition on Sept. 21. He needed less than four minutes to finish fellow UFC veteran Rodney Wallace with a flying knee.
Cane headlines Friday’s SFT 2 card in Sao Paulo, Brazil, against Sengoku and K-1 Hero’s veteran Fabio Silva, and he wants to impress once again. However, he’s not looking past Silva.
“My plan is to go back to the UFC,” Cane told MMAFighting.com. “That’s the goal I set for myself as soon as I left the promotion. I want to go back to the UFC, and I’m working for that. But I would be a fool to think about that before this fight. I’m focused on the fight, and not where it could take me. I’ll think about that after the fight.”
Standout Fighting Tournament 2 takes place at Mauro Pinheiro Gymnasium in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and the action will stream live at MMAFighting.com this Friday, starting at 6 p.m. ET.
“Banha” decided to move back to Brazil and train at Demian Maia’s team in Sao Paulo after being released from the UFC, and he has no plans to go back to the United States.
“My camp was great and I feel ready for the fight,” he said. “The team is strong. I love to train in Brazil again. The structure here is excellent and we have some great training partners. Eduardo Alonso is doing an excellent job, and I’ll do my best to go there and get the win.”
Fabio Silva has a 13-6 record who has fought only once since 2009, but Cane knows he can’t underestimate his power.
“Fabio Silva is a long-time veteran who hasn’t fought for a while, but he’s really tough,” he said. “He has fought a lot in Japan, fought guys like ‘King Mo’ and Melvin Manhoef, so he’s dangerous and aggressive. It’s a great match-up and the fans will watch a great fight, for sure.”
