One of the most exciting Welterweight contenders on the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) roster is set to make a quick turnaround, as Vicente Luque will face Randy Brown at an upcoming Fight Night event on Aug. 1, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That’s according to Brown himself, who spilled the beans on a Twitch podcast via Marcel Dorff. Luque most recently competed at UFC 249 on May 9, 2020, defeating Niko Price via technical knockout (doctor stoppage) in Jacksonville, Fla., (see it again here). The win put Vicente back in the win column after previously having his six fight win streak snapped by Stephen Thompson at UFC 244.
Despite his great run from 2017 to 2019, Luque wasn’t able to crack the Top 15 of the highly-crowded and stacked Welterweight division.
Brown, meanwhile, has won two in a row but hasn’t seen action since November of 2019, defeating Warlley Alves at UFC Fight Night 164 via triangle choke. He and Luque were originally set to tango at UFC 249 on April 11 before the COVID_19 pandemic spoiled those plans. Now, “Rude Boy” will look to insert himself as a player at 170 pounds by taking out a fan-favorite.
The event will be headlined by a women’s Bantamweight bout, as former division champion Holly Holm takes on surging contender, Irene Aldana. Also on the card, Derek Brunson will face Edmen Shahbazyan in Middleweight action.
