Conor McGregor was facing “an outright prison sentence” for his 2022 arrest.
His “Notorious” attorneys were instead able to score a suspended sentence, which includes a two-year ban on driving and a €5,000 fine. In addition, McGregor must keep the peace for the next 24 months or could find himself in violation and ultimately, behind bars.
The Irish Times reported the court’s ruling earlier today.
“This is an appalling series of breaches of the road traffic rules and an appalling episode of dangerous driving,” said Judge David McHugh at Blanchardstown District Court. “It is appropriate to meet this matter by way of a suspended sentence, and only just.”
McGregor, 35, is no stranger to driving bans in Dublin, nor is he unfamiliar with having his expensive vehicles towed by authorities. I guess that new fleet of cars will also need a new fleet of drivers until the former UFC champ can get his driving privileges reinstated.
During the proceedings it was revealed that McGregor had a whopping 20 previous convictions, including 17 traffic offenses (three of them for speeding), two public order charges, and one conviction for assault causing harm between 2011 and 2019.
As far as his combat sports career, McGregor is currently sidelined with a broken pinky toe. There is talk of having his Michael Chandler fight rebooked for December; however, nothing is official at this time and “Notorious” has yet to provide a window for his UFC return.
Meanwhile, bookies have already set odds for his next arrest.
