McGregor also fell to No. 15 on the pound-for-pound chart.
How the mighty have fallen.
Back in January 2018, Conor McGregor was the reigning lightweight champion, with interim titleholder Tony Ferguson ranked No. 1 at 155 pounds. Seemed like those two were destined to fight but then again, this is MMA and there is no such thing as a foregone conclusion.
Especially when it comes to “El Cucuy.”
Fast-forward three years and McGregor is no longer part of the Top 5 whereas Ferguson is barely holding on, teetering perilously in the No. 5 slot. You can thank the UFC 257 pay-per-view (PPV) event for that, where Bellator MMA import Michael Chandler and former interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier shook things up at 155 pounds.
“Iron” takes over the No. 4 seat while “The Diamond” captures the No. 1 spot.
Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
