Here’s what the Bellator welterweight champ had to say about his failed attempt to win the middleweight strap.
Bellator welterweight champ and great Canadian hope Rory MacDonald had a bad time on Saturday night when he moved up in weight to challenge middleweight champ Gegard Mousasi in the main event of Bellator 206. Those who watched the fight and not an episode of Peppa Pig saw an unusually hesitant MacDonald struggle to find his rhythm on the feet before being taken to the ground and mounted in the second round.
Mount may not be the guaranteed death sentence it once was, but Mousasi made MacDonald pay in the position with a series of brutal elbows that saw the fight stopped 3:23 into the second round. Now Rory is speaking out about the fight and what went wrong for him.
Last night was a tough one for me, unfortunately I didnt mentally show up ready to take on a competitive fight and froze in the cage. In this sport you pay a high price if you’re not dialed in and ready to go. I have zero excuses, gegard was a fantastic champion last night.

RoMac also retweeted this uplifting religious quote showing his continued devotion even in the face of adversity:
Instead of dwelling on your difficulties, focus more on the fact that God is for you and His power is at work in you.

MacDonald will have a chance to turn things around when he enters the first round of the eight man Bellator Welterweight Grand Prix. No date has been set, but he’s set to face Jon Fitch in a bout that will see his 170 pound belt on the line. In fact, every round of the Welterweight GP has Rory putting his belt up for grabs. After seeing what happened to him at middleweight, we have to worry: is Rory biting off more than he can chew?
