Two lightweight fights have been added to UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi.
Two exciting lightweight fights have been added to UFC 242, as Islam Makachev is set to take on Davi Ramos whilst Mairbek Taisumov will fight Carlos Diego Ferreira.
The UFC officially announced the fights for the Abu Dhabi card on Friday afternoon. The return to the octagon is particularly special for Taisumov, as this will be his first UFC appearance since serving a six-month USADA suspension for stanolozol.
Makachev (17-1) is currently on a five-fight winning streak in the UFC, most recently winning a decision against Arman Tsarukyan in UFC St. Petersburg’s Fight of the Night in April. The 27-year-old scored consecutive first-round finishes over Kajan Johnson and Gleison Tibau before his most recent win.
Three of Ramos’ (11-2) last four wins have come by submission, and “The Tasmanian Devil” is undefeated since making his UFC debut against Sergio Moraes in March 2017. Ramos most recently won a decision against Austin Hubbard in May.
Meanwhile in other contest, Taisumov (28-5) is unbeaten since 2014 and has racked up three Performance of the Night bonuses during his six-fight winning streak. The 30-year-old won a decision against Desmond Green in September last year but missed weight by five pounds for the fight.
Ferreira (15-2) also missed weight for his last fight, defeating Rustam Khabilov at UFC Prague in February. During his current stint at lightweight, Ferreira has picked up impressive wins against the likes of Jared Gordon and Olivier Aubin-Mercier.
UFC 242 takes place on September 7th at the du Arena in Abu Dhabi. A UFC lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier will headline the card.
